It is super close to MICA, UMMC, UB, Hopkins etc, and attraction spots in the city.

It is about 13-15 mins drive to UMBC, depending on the traffic and also close to the metro and bus lines. The room is 600$, which includes all utilities. Bathroom will be shared only with one other female. Move in can be as early as September 1st.

IFPAC has been leading the way in Advanced Manufacturing Science for over 35 years. 

The annual conference 'IFPAC 2023' held June 4-7, 2023 in North Bethesda, MD and attended by more than 400 people focused on 'A Framework for the future, advanced manufacturing quality & innovation'.

Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:
- Analyzed patient safety data from multiple sources, including hospital records and incident reports, to identify common themes and root causes of adverse events. 
- Worked with cross-functional teams to develop targeted interventions and improve processes to reduce the risk of adverse events.
- Developed complex SQL queries and Python scripts to clean, transform, and aggregate data from disparate sources, including electronic health records and claims data.

Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?
I heard about this position from Handshake. After applying for this position, they called me for a technical interview. 

What resources did you use to find your current experience?
UMBC Career Center, Career Fairs, Handshake, LinkedIn or other social media.

What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?
In my role as a Data Analyst Intern at the Maryland Department of Health, I've most enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to patient safety through data analysis, collaborate with diverse teams, and grow my technical skills. The team outings and mentoring have also enriched my experience, fostering a positive and engaging work environment.

How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?
My work has made an impact by uncovering common themes and root causes of adverse events in patient safety data. By analyzing complex datasets, I've assisted in identifying areas that required targeted interventions, ultimately contributing to the development of processes that reduce the risk of these events. My skills in SQL and Python have enabled me to transform and aggregate data efficiently, aiding the organization in making informed decisions. Overall, my contributions have played a role in enhancing patient care and safety within the healthcare system.

What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?
Seek an internship that aligns with your interests and strengths. Tailor your resume, practice for interviews, and don't be afraid to network. Once in the role, be proactive, professional, and eager to learn. Your attitude and effort can turn an internship into a significant stepping stone in your career.

My internship allowed me to transform classroom knowledge into real-world impact. Working with a team towards a common goal in healthcare was not just rewarding but a significant learning experience.

UMBC is participating in The Baltimore Sun Top Workplaces program, which identifies and compares top places to work in the Baltimore metropolitan area, based solely on the opinions of employees.

Last Monday, August 14, an email with a link to the online survey was sent out. The survey, conducted by Energage, an independent research company, should take about five minutes to complete. Energage will keep your responses confidential; however, certain members of the UMBC community will have access to the optional written comments on the survey. If you wish to remain completely anonymous, please do not submit any optional written comments that could identify you individually.

Additionally, please note:

  • If you did not receive an email, please check your spam or junk email for a message from "Energage Survey." To open the survey invitation, you may have to confirm the email is not spam.
  • If you accidentally delete the survey email, you will receive a reminder email a few days later with another access link.
  • Do not forward the survey email to a colleague. Each email has a unique code to prevent multiple responses.

The library's Macbooks will be available again soon. The Dells will be recalled this week and sent for software updates. We expect the Macbooks and some of the Dells to be available in time for the fall semester.
