Job Scam Posting Another Scam
On October 4, 2022, a job offer was posted in at least one group on the MyUMBC site.  The job offer was supposedly from Prof. Erika Fountain for "Administrative Assistants".  This posting was an error and has been taken down.  The job does not exist.  Prof. Fountain did not post it. In the posting below, note that the phone number is not a UMBC office phone number. The number referenced has a 612 area code (Minneapolis, Minnesota).

Again, THIS IS A SCAM.

Join us for a virtual seminar by Drs. Jeffrey Pierce and Emily Fischer, Professors of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University. Their talk is titled "Fires to Farms: Collaborations using In-Situ and Satellite Observations to Understand Non-Traditional Air Pollution Sources and Impacts."

Abstract:
This seminar will provide a broad overview of recent and ongoing air quality research related to both wildfires and agriculture. They will highlight examples of how in situ observations have been combined with satellite observations and models to investigate both fundamental atmospheric science problems and enable applications ranging from epidemiology to economics.

Biographies:
Drs. Jeffrey Pierce and Emily Fischer are both professors in the Atmospheric Science Department at Colorado State University. They work collaboratively across many different projects and both are members of the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Science Team (HAQAST). Dr. Fischer received her PhD in Atmospheric Science from University of Washington, and she did a postdoc at Harvard University. Dr. Pierce received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and he did a postdoc at NASA GSFC. Their groups use satellites, in situ measurements, and models to investigate a wide range of topics, ranging from pollution exposure and health; gas and aerosol chemistry and physics; and climate impacts.

Hi everyone!

Hope your week is going well. Based on the When2Meet we sent out last week, Fridays are the best day to meet. Because we’ll have our first meeting on the day of the bonfire, we’ll be meeting from 5:00-6:00 P.M. when we’ll typically meet 6:00-7:00 P.M. through Webex. We’ll have an introduction and then we’ll play a Kahoot game for a chance to win a T-shirt!


We’ll get more into club rules at our first meeting, but in order to be an official member of the club and be eligible for executive positions, you need to attend at least (2) meetings! We’ll see you on Friday!

Applications are now open for teams of CAHSS faculty to apply to work with Hanover Research professionals!


CAHSS is continuing our partnership with Hanover Research, a grant development and research firm that helps faculty strengthen competitive external proposals to federal agencies and private and non-profit foundations. Teams of CAHSS faculty may apply for the opportunity to work directly with Hanover professionals. 

 

A second round of applications is now open for faculty who intend to submit an external proposal later in Fall 2022 or in spring/early summer 2023.

For more information about the process and the resources that Hanover provides, faculty are encouraged to view this webinar featuring CAHSS PIs who worked with Hanover this past year.  Please direct any questions to Christine Mallinson (mallinson@umbc.edu), Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship.  

 

Selection Criteria: 

  • Preference will be given to teams that aim to submit larger, collaborative and/or interdisciplinary proposals to federal agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH) or to foundations. 

  • Each team must have at least one CAHSS tenured/tenure track faculty member. 

  • Faculty with prior collaborative grant experience who are looking to scale up their research are especially encouraged to apply.
