Intern of the Week: Maddie Greul

<Tagline>Check out Maddie's internship with Northrop Grumman</Tagline>

Name: Maddie Gruel

Internship, Co-op, or Research Site: Northrop Grumman (Internship)

Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer Intern

Major or Program: Mechanical Engineering

Current Class Level: Senior

Work Term: Summer 2022

Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities.

"My internship at Northrop Grumman was/is (I’m still interning here part time) an unforgettable experience. To be able to work for a company that does such substantial work for the military is quite an honor. It’s amazing going to work every day and knowing your making a true impact on warfighters' lives!

One task that was consistently day to day was a few meetings which helped give me an insight as to how a production team works together through all the different roles.

However, my day to day at Northrop was always a little different each day which is something I loved. The specific goal of the projects I would tackle would be to increase production through the process of researching issues and coming up with the best solution to resolve them."

Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?

I heard of the position in late January and applied in early February. The interview process was throughout the months of February and March and by April I had received an offer!

What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?

The people I work with! Everyone is so kind and really wants to see you succeed and reach your goals!

How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?

Payment and Freedom in the Prussia Reform Era

What does it mean to get paid for work? What does the employer
believe is communicated by wages to the worker, and how does the worker
interpret wages received? How do onlookers interpret that transaction?
Wages are a thin mode of communicating about a thick
relationship—an economic, social, cultural, and moral relationship.

This
presentation examines the German case at the moment when free labor was
enshrined by law. Napoleon defeated Prussia in 1806, and Prussian
reformers persuaded their king to make many reforms. One was the October Edict of 1807, which ended serfdom and established equality
before the law with respect to occupation. In fact, though, there
already were free waged laborers in Prussia before this dramatic
moment. Did the meaning of their wages change, now that everyone was to
enjoy freedom of occupation and be paid for their labor?
