UMBC featured in AASHE's 2022 Sustainable Campus Index

<Tagline>As a top performer for Water Stewardship - 3 years running!</Tagline>

UMBC has been recognized as a top performer in
    the 2022 Sustainable
Campus Index, tying for second in
the area of Water overall. This is UMBC's third year in a row in a top spot for this category.

A publication from the Association for the Advancement of
Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index
recognizes top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in
17 impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &
    Rating System (STARS).

UMBC achieved top performer status by earning
a high score overall and in the STARS Water related categories. The 2022 SCI is based on UMBC's 2020 AASHE STARS Report and Silver rating. It is important to note that in August 2022, UMBC recieved an AASHE STARS rating of Gold for the first time in the university's history! The 2023 SCI will utilize that report when considering UMBC for any rankings.

“Congratulations to Institution Name for their incredible
sustainability accomplishments,” said AASHE’s Executive Director Meghan Fay
Zahniser. “Upon reading the innovative and high-impact initiatives within this
report, I’m encouraged that the global sustainability transformation that we
desperately need is, in fact, happening.”

UMBC's STARS reports are publicly available on the

About the Water Category

Water conservation and reuse, as well as effective rainwater management practices, maintain and protect finite groundwater supplies. Pumping, delivering and treating water is also a major driver of energy consumption. institutions reduce energy usage and the emissions associated with energy generation by conserving water. Water conservation and effective rainwater and wastewater management diminish the need for effluent discharge into local surface water supplies, which consequently improves the health of local water ecosystems. This section covers water use reduction and rainwater management.

About STARS

The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System
(STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and
universities to measure their sustainability performance. STARS was developed
by AASHE with broad participation from the higher education community. The
credits included in STARS span the breadth of higher education sustainability
and are organized into four categories: Academics, Engagement, Operations, and
Planning & Administration. All reports are publicly accessible on the STARS
website. For more information, visit stars.aashe.org.

Lambda Chi Alpha serves to complement higher education by providing opportunities for academic achievement, leadership development, and lifelong friendships.

Rush week is a semesterly initiative intended to recruit undergraduate students of sterling character and high scholastic aptitude. Our events serve as a platform for brothers to meet potential candidates and to address any questions they may have about the fraternity. Students who carry a respectable GPA, are already heavily involved with university organizations, and demonstrate that they possess the maturity and resolve needed to excel academically while being in a social fraternity are considered for bids.

At Lambda Chi Alpha, we believe the college experience includes balancing academic and extracurricular activities with an active social life. While the fraternity offers a multitude of academic, leadership, and philanthropic opportunities, the fraternity also presents a myriad of social events and networking opportunities. Over the course of the year, we host dozens of social events that give the brothers and students from neighboring schools a chance to mingle and unwind. For brothers, other social events include mixers with local sororities, formal date evenings, and invite only house events.

Lambda Chi Alpha holds its brothers to the highest standard, as such we have been awarded the highest cumulative GPA average among the Interfraternity Council many times. We are the oldest social fraternity at UMBC as well as one of the oldest in the country.

As per UMBC's interfraternity council bylaws, students become eligible upon completion of a full semester (minimum 12 credits) at any postsecondary institution. At minimum, candidates who meet our chapter's character and GPA standards are considered. Candidates may then be evaluated based on members' experiences as well as references from sororities, professors, and alumni.

For more information, check out our website at:
http://www.umbclca.com/

Fall 2022 Rush Schedule:

Lambda Chi Alpha was founded in 1909 at Boston University. As part of its mission to help collegiate men reach their full potential, Lambda Chi Alpha has developed a program known as True Brother.
