About this Event

When schools finally fully reopened, there was a presumed return to normalcy, to things being OK. But our kids are not OK. Especially our teens. They've experienced trauma that's continuing to impact them and as their parents, you've been witnessing this first-hand. Social anxiety, depression, isolation, mood swing...or perhaps your kid seems too OK for everything they've experienced. You're not alone and there are steps you can take to spot the signs, talk to your kids and get them support.

Our guest, Jennifer L. Hartstein, PsyD, is a nationally known child, adolescent and family psychologist. A frequent guest on the national morning news shows, she's often cited in print media, and is an in-demand speaker at conferences. Parents of teens and college kids, this webinar is specifically for you. Please join us.

These Care webinars are free to attend, and a recording will be shared afterwards.

What to do if your account has been hacked?

<Tagline>Don't Panic!</Tagline>

Imagine this scenario: recently, your UMBC account was breached. You are unsure how your account was used during the breach or how to secure your account. Below are steps to help you regain access.

Change your password immediately. Changing your password is necessary and should be the first step you take to secure your account. This will essentially kick the hackers off of your account.

Change your security questions. Even if you changed your password, they could regain access to your account if your security questions are the same.

Check your account activity. Often you will see the IP address of the perpetrator. This is very helpful to security; we can use this to identify other compromised accounts.

Notify Security of the breach. By notifying security (security@umbc.edu), we can inform the campus of the breach. In addition, we can make sure the bad guys got kicked off and identify any other changes made to your account during the compromise.

Check your reply-to email. Sometimes, after an account was compromised, the Reply-To email is changed, especially if your email was used for spamming. If this change occurs, you will not receive email from your professors or other staff. Instruction for changing your reply to email can be found here: https://www.gmass.co/blog/reply-to-address/#:~:text=Setting%20the%20Reply%2DTo%20in,address%2C%20and%20hit%20Save%20Changes.

Install Duo. Duo is UMBC’s second-factor authentication service. With this, no one can access your account unless they have bothyour password and your phone. For more information, visit: https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Two-Factor+Authentication+with.+DUO

Check your other accounts. If you used the same password on your UMBC account that you have on any other account (online banking, Instagram, Paypal, etc.), you should assume that all accounts using that password are compromised. This is a good reason to use different passwords in all important accounts..

Hopefully, these tips will help you feel more confident about your account’s security. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us atsecurity@umbc.edu.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Please see information below about a study open to UMBC Junior/ Senior STEM majors:

My
name is Allison French and I am a PhD Candidate in the Applied
Developmental Psychology program at UMBC. As part of my dissertation
research, my faculty mentor, Dr. Shuyan Sun, and I are interested in learning
more about the experiences of undergraduate STEM students and their
perceptions of institutional support and sense of belonging. We are inviting you to participate in our study.

You will be asked to complete an online Qualtrics survey that will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
The survey includes questions about your perceptions of support from
faculty, staff, advisors, and other personnel at UMBC, your sense of
belonging in STEM, and some demographic information. Following the
survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in a 90-minute virtual focus group,
where you will talk with a small group of other participants about your
experiences with institutional support and sense of belonging.

To
participate in this study, you must be in at least your junior year of
college (Including transfer students who have at least 60 credit hours
and have been at UMBC for at least one academic year). You must also
identify as a STEM major (for example, Chemistry, Biology, Physics,
Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, & Psychology
     BS).

If you complete the survey and focus group, you will be given a $15 Gift Card in exchange for your time.

If you are interested in participating, please click on the following survey link: https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d509xHLXSevsUoC

STEM Support at UMBC : A Study ($15 Incentive)

<Tagline>Take part in a UMBC-based survey -- Juniors/Seniors Only</Tagline>

Greetings!

My name is Allison French and I am a PhD Candidate in the Applied Developmental Psychology program at UMBC. As part of my dissertation research, my faculty mentor, Dr. Shuyan Sun, and I are interested in learning more about the experiences of undergraduate STEM students and their perceptions of institutional support and sense of belonging. We are inviting you to participate in our study.

You will be asked to complete an online Qualtrics survey that will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The survey includes questions about your perceptions of support from faculty, staff, advisors, and other personnel at UMBC, your sense of belonging in STEM, and some demographic information. Following the survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in a 90-minute virtual focus group, where you will talk with a small group of other participants about your experiences with institutional support and sense of belonging.

To participate in this study, you must be in at least your junior year of college (Including transfer students who have at least 60 credit hours and have been at UMBC for at least one academic year). You must also identify as a STEM major (for example, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, & Psychology BS).

If you complete the survey and focus group, you will be given a $15 Gift Card in exchange for your time.

If you are interested in participating, please click on the following survey link: https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d509xHLXSevsUoC

If you have any questions, please let me know at afrench2@umbc.edu.
