If Tech Fails to Design for the Most Vulnerable

<Tagline>It Fails Us All: Design from the Margins</Tagline>

However, in centering, consulting, and understanding the legal, social, and political issues that impact decentered and marginalized groups, some protections can be provided. Reimagining the importance of cases that deviate from the so-called typical technology user and placing them at the center of the design process is not a revolutionary concept. It's a core basis for many industries. In terms of safety and security, it should be seen as a corporate responsibility in developing tech. As one of the Tunisian lawyers from the Digital Crime Scenes report frames it. “We are in your application, you must protect us,” and when you do, you’re protecting all of us." <Tagline>Powerful new ways to boost public support for engineering...</Tagline>

"...As the graduate program director at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s College of Engineering and Information Technology, Woodrow Winchester III is used to discussing bold ideas with faculty and industry professionals. Last year, however, the pandemic prompted him to seek a broader audience for his insights on how engineering could help transform the US public health system. On one level, Winchester, a design futurist, thought the topic would resonate since health care affects everyone. But he also wanted “to be a bit of a provocateur” and inspire students who might be drawn to engineering if made aware of its many medical applications. The Conversation, an online news organization that publishes general-interest articles written by academic experts, offered the perfect platform. Winchester’s piece garnered readers worldwide and was picked up by Business Insider, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and a dozen other media outlets."
New E-Board and general updates!

Hi Gardeners!

Long time no see! We just completed elections for the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year and are very happy to welcome our new members! You can see the new board listed on our home page on the right side.

A small recap of our year: we had several successful clean-up days to maintain the plots that we weren't able to get to during lockdowns, we worked to transplant milkweed seeds to the garden in order to attract pollinators, we did a plant swap at our GMB, we worked with UMBC's sustainability team and did a mushroom log inoculation workshop, and finally, we had a ton of new members join!

For our current plot renters, please make sure you are maintaining your plot(s). You are responsible for it throughout the summer and into the fall. If you have any questions regarding the plots or anything else, don't hesitate to reach out to us through our Discord, Instagram, or via email.

We wish everyone good luck on their finals and hope you have a great summer! (PS: Be on the lookout for some upcoming events in the summer and fall.)
