LGBTQ+ Student Union 2022 Election Form

Hello all!

Here is the long-awaited election form for our LSU elections for our e-board for Fall 2022.

Thank you for your patience and thank you to everyone who nominated someone! We hope to receive as many responses from our members and participants as possible by THIS FRIDAY, 5/13/22!

Qualifications to vote: Must be a current UMBC student, must have attended at least one LGBTQ+ Student Union meeting or event.

This GBM's topic is "Mental Health in the Diaspora", where we will discuss how mental health and mental illnesses are seen in different parts of The Diaspora, as well as the various disparities that show up in mental health treatment of Black people across the Diaspora.

We will also be selling more Krispy Kreme donuts for our fundraiser!

On Thursday, May 12th, we will be having an open training from 7-8:30pm on the UMBC turf field next to the event center for those of whom that would like to get a feel for what the team is like.  This will be a good way to get your name on a door step before fall tryouts next semester.  This is a one time chance so take it as you will.  Only those with previous soccer experience are genuinely invited as the training session needs to maintain at a high level of play.  Be there promptly at 6:45pm!

As a reminder, we will be In-Person both Tonight (5/10) and Thursday (5/12) from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm!

 

Both of these meetings will be in ILSB 116b, where we will be hosting Board Games and DnD!

 

This is our final official club week! We will have the room open next week in case you want a place to game, but we will not be officially hosting on 5/17 and 5/19 to give officers time to prepare for finals.

The afternoon of April 28, IMET hosted Dr. Shefali Mehta, USDA's Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics, and Dr. Caird Rexroad, USDA-ARS National Program Leader for Aquaculture. Dr. Mehta was amazed by our Aquaculture Research Center and very excited about our work.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $10 million to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) to carry out a set of projects to solve specific aquaculture challenges.

Professor Yonathan Zohar, chair of Marine Biotechnology, UMBC, at IMET, leads the Sustainable Aquaculture Systems Supporting Atlantic Salmon (SAS2) that will address a range of challenges still hindering the success of emerging aquaculture platforms. SAS2 project includes many academic and federal research institutes, as well as nine industry partners from across the U.S., Iceland, and Norway. Two-thirds of SAS2 will be dedicated to research, with the remaining third split evenly between education/workforce development, and extension/community engagement.
