Our Future Plans

Hey everyone
I want to thank everybody that helped in some way with Daniel's event, Matthew, Lucero, Cameron and Daniel himself. It was super rad for Daniel to take the initiative to share ideas he was stoked on with the rest of the group. We should all be like that. Also I want to thank everyone for attending and opening their mind to some challenging ideas despite the nasty god-forsaken rain. I appreciate it and I am sure Daniel does as well.

This Wednesday the discussion will be about our future plans as individuals. What goals are worth pursuing? How would we like to live the rest of our lives? We will be discussing why we think philosophy is worth studying and what impact it has made on our lives and how we will engage with philosophy in the future.

I enjoy discussing things in the negative as well because it feels more open ended. What future plans do we not have? What goals or not worth pursuing? How do we not want to live?

It will be a discussion heavy meeting so be thinking of the type of questions you would like to ask your classmates and the questions you would like to be asked. Think of what answers you might provide if asked about what you want in your future.

New Post2022-2024 AFAC Election Results and Runoff Election

<Tagline>Runoff Election for COEIT and CAHSS AFAC Representatives</Tagline>

The recent AFAC elections have resulted in the election of
    the following representatives:

Robert Bennett – CAHSS Representative

Bonnie Kegan – CNMS Representative

Congratulations to both Rob and Bonnie and we look forward
to having them continue their very capable representation of UMBC’s Adjuncts.

The recent election has also resulted in ties for the
positions of COEIT representative and for the second CAHSS representative. In the
case of the position of COEIT representative, there is a tie between Paul
Comitz and Terry Tsai, and for the position of the CAHSS representative there
is a tie between Margie Burns and Jill Vasbinder

In order to resolve both of these ties, a runoff election is
being held. Voting will open on Monday, May 9 and will be open until 11:59pm on
Friday, May 13. Your participation in this runoff election will be greatly
    appreciated.

An announcement of final election results will be made on Saturday May 14.

A Utopian Model of Human-Technology Interaction

<Tagline>Peace as a foundation for system designs</Tagline>

"...More generally, as noted by Brossard (2019), cultivating social imagination and investing in cultural and social capital is important for initiating real-world implementations of utopian design. By combining the perspectives and creativity of youth stakeholders with the experience and expertise of designers and researchers, future utopian designers and innovators can advance the use of CI design methodologies to shape system designs. Indeed, deeper systems thinking focused on well-being may help to avoid what Segal (2017) describes as "techno-fixes"—short-term technological interventions which address symptoms of underlying causes, but do little to create noticeable improvements in society. We need to embrace collective intelligence and utopian system design thinking going forward—the new generation is ready."
