offered through the Association of Energy Engineers, and then begin an
8-week internship. Students will work 20-40 hours per week.
Students receive a stipend of $5,000 toward their compensation. At the

AAOU SSC Process Updates & Deadline Calendar Change

Good Afternoon,
The AAOU SSC is implementing a new process for submitting questions to our staff. Starting on Monday, 4/11/2022, you should be able to see a new drop down option on our RT page for "General Inquiries" which will be replacing our shared mailbox. Please use this new drop down option to submit questions to our staff as you would the shared mailbox, and if you need to reference any RT tickets that are open, please make sure to provide the RT number as a reference.

As well, we have noticed several instances of previously resolved tickets being reopened by department members, requesting new or further actions be taken. It is crucial to our process that a new ticket is being submitted for each request, so we can ensure proper tracking and ownership of the request. The AAOU SSC occasionally needs to redistribute department servicing assignments to our staff to compensate for large volume periods. If previously resolved tickets are reopened, and the owner of the original ticket is no longer servicing your department, your request is highly likely to get missed. If you have questions about previous tickets, please submit a general inquiry ticket, referencing the original RT number.

Finally, the AAOU SSC has several staff members attending a conference on April 28th, and in order to allow them time to attend the conference, we are moving the PR2022-024 ticket deadline from 4/26/2022 to COB Thursday, 4/21/2022. If we do not receive your request by this time, we cannot guarantee we will be able to process your request timely. The updated deadline calendar shows the update and can be found on our website.

If you have any questions about processes or concerns about meeting deadlines, please submit a general inquiries ticket, so we can work with you to get paperwork processed as timely as possible.

Thank you,

Mike Renda

The third edition of the Neuromatch Academy will take place this summer (July and/or August). It is a great online, 3-week long summer school to get a comprehensive understanding of either/both computational neuroscience or/and deep learning.

Application deadline: April 20th.

And you can also apply for a paid TA position!

I took part in the Deep Learning course last year, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

(FYI, the lab fee last year was $320 but you can easily have it waived)

I'm attaching the official announcement email below to give you all the information. Please share with anyone potentially interested!

Best,
    Yseult Héjja-Brichard

---

Dear colleagues,

We are excited to announce that Neuromatch Academy (NMA) is offering two courses this year from July 11th to July 29th 2022 which will run in parallel online. Applications for students and teaching assistants are now open until April 20th, 2022.

NMA-Computational Neuroscience

Flagship course covering contemporary computational neuroscience modeling and analysis techniques.

Content: https://compneuro.neuromatch.io

NMA-Deep Learning: In-depth advanced materials, ideal for graduate students and postdocs wishing to add computational techniques to their neuroscience research, or for individuals looking to dive into the Deep Learning world.

Content: https://deeplearning.neuromatch.io

Application Form: https://portal.neuromatchacademy.org/

What is Neuromatch Academy?

Neuromatch Academy (NMA) launched in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aimis to provide globally-accessible, high-quality, TA-supported training in computational techniques related to neuroscience. In 2020 and 2021, NMA designed and ran a fully online 3-week Computational Neuroscience and a Deep Learning course for over 3000 students with more than 350 teaching assistants (TAs) working in virtual inverted (or flipped) classrooms and on small group projects. Fourteen languages, active community management, and low cost allowed for an unprecedented level of inclusivity and universal accessibility.

What is in a course?

Our courses are intensive 3-week programs involving hands-on tutorials developed by experts in the field. Accepted students are placed into TA-led pods (groups) using the Neuromatch algorithm, which matches students with common interests who are in the same timezone and their preferred language for instruction. Students also receive personalized support as they work through hands-on tutorials and collaborate on course projects. [Please note that course participation requires active attendance and attention of the students for 3 weeks.]

What does it cost?

Neuromatch Academy’s mission is to make education affordable to everybody, no matter their financial background. We do this by pricing our courses significantly lower than other summer schools, adjusting for national economic factors, and allowing students to pay what they can when those adjustments are insufficient.

Please see the website (https://academy.neuromatch.io/) for additional information, and volunteer opportunities!
