How Have the Broken Elevators Affected You?

<Tagline>Looking for people to interview</Tagline>

I'm looking for people to interview for an article I'm trying to write for the newspaper.

As an abled person, broken elevators are a mild inconvience. But there are many people on this campus that have to plan their whole days around not being able to use an elevator. I want to give students a space to express and document their feelings about the lack of accessibility around campus lately, and hopefully raise some awareness in the abled community.

I'd like to find out what you do when the elevators are down and how teachers accomodate you, if they do.

I prefer to hear from students with chronic illness/conditions, but if you have a negative experience of any kind related to the elevators please contact me at rhamner1@umbc.edu with the subject Elevators, and let me know if you're available to meet in person.

P.S. if you've been writing on the signs in FA, I'd LOVE to talk to you :)

---- UPDATE -----

I am no longer interviewing students for the article, since I'm wrapping it up to be edited and ready for print in the mid-november issue of the paper, but I'd still like to be a part of this conversation between students and administration. Feel free to reach out to me just to talk!

Ethnography of Food - AMST 403/630

<Tagline>Offered Spring 2020 with Dr. Sarah Fouts</Tagline>

With a focus on labor, migration, and food access, this upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level course is designed for students to gain a critical lens into the cultural production and consumption of food while also understanding and critiquing the ways scholars conduct ethnographic research. In the first half of this course, students will discuss readings and learn about a range of ethnographic data collection methods, while considering ethical issues involved in ethnographic research. The second half of the course will be co-taught with Fernando López, a New Orleans-based cultural documentarian, and we will engage in further inquiry of fieldwork as we apply qualitative research approaches to a Baltimore-based documentary project with Mera Kitchen Collective, a cooperative run by immigrant and refugee women. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Sarah Fouts: sfouts@umbc.edu
