Thank you for coming out today for Welcome Week! Despite technical difficulties it was a great discussion full of awesome questions! Just wanted to touch base about everything mentioned today and send resources for those interested! Links with more information have been provided, as well as direction on how to sign up.   

Accounting Certificate:
- If looking to add the certificate to your degree, update your student record with the registrar's office by using this link here and letting them know you would like to add it. 
- As a note, if you are pairing this certificate with a Financial Economics degree, it is only 8 extra classes! 

UMBC VITA:
- If looking to sign up for VITA, complete their Volunteer Sign Up Form and they will be sure to reach out with training details later in the semester. 
- This is a FANTASTIC resume builder that can really set you apart! We will be coordinating an event to have their student leadership come talk to us for those who would like to know more.          
CPA / CMA / EA / CIA: 
- For those interested, we'll be reaching out with a date for another club meeting to go over the specific licensing material. We'll further explain eligibility requirements, exam formats, needed study materials, and timeline details! 
- A Becker representative will be joining us to provide further details about the software and how you may gain access to the exam prep material as a student.  

Forensic Accounting
- This is an especially interesting field! This industry specializes in investigating white collar financial crimes such as embezzlement, fraud, money laundering, and intelligence gathering.
- We will be hosting a White Collar Crime themed event with a mock investigation using a Red Flag Media game case file. Further details to come soon!

Purpose:

This Guide Notice informs the extramural community that NIH plans to launch preview versions of the NIH Common Forms within Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv). Users should be able to access these preview versions of the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support Common Forms and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement (along with the corresponding instructions) on or before September 15, 2025.

These preview documents will allow users to save, reopen, and edit the preview forms in the SciENcv module. However, the download PDF functionality will be disabled, and the form(s) and data entered into the preview versions will be deleted and no longer accessible once the official NIH Common Forms become available for preparation and submission, anticipated November 2025.

These preview forms are an opportunity for users to preview the new system functionality and new instructions. These are not the final official versions, and NIH is not seeking any feedback or testing from external users.Please refer to the full notice linked above for further details.

Baltimore Book Festival 2025: Red Emma's Stage

By the early twentieth century, postbellum assaults on civil rights and the advent of Jim Crow expanded Baltimore’s law enforcement into a vast network designed to oppress Black people. Prof. Casiano’s history charts the institutional consolidation of the city’s post–Civil War police state.

Authorities in Baltimore organized and established municipal power in distinct but connected sites that included jails, areas of political and social activism, public schools, street corners, courtrooms, and homes. Casiano analyzes policing in light of two parallel and inextricable realities of the city’s governance. First, policing evolved from an inefficient and vigilante-driven system into a modern and paramilitary endeavor focused on suppressing citizens and maximizing the power, wealth, and reach of capitalists. Second, decades of racial antagonism shaped Baltimore policing into an apparatus primarily oriented around subduing Black freedom.
