The Provenance Working Group was chartered to develop a framework for interchanging provenance on the Web. The Working Group has now published the PROV Family of Documents as W3C Recommendations, along with corresponding supporting notes. You can find a complete list of the documents in the PROV Overview Note. PROV enables one to represent and interchange provenance information using widely available formats such as RDF and XML. The Technical Architecture Group has published a Group Note of Publishing and Linking on the Web. The Web borrows familiar concepts from physical media (e.g., the notion of a "page") and overlays them on top of a networked infrastructure (the Internet) and a digital presentation medium (browser software). This is a convenient abstraction, but when social or legal concepts and frameworks relating documents, publishing and speech are applied to the Web, the analogies can be misleading, for example, publishing a page on the Web is fundamentally different from printing and distributing a page in a magazine or book. The Tracking Protection Working Group has published two Working Drafts today:

Tracking Preference Expression (DNT). This specification defines the technical mechanisms for expressing a tracking preference via the DNT request header field in HTTP, via an HTML DOM property readable by embedded scripts, and via properties accessible to various user agent plug-in or extension APIs. It also defines mechanisms for sites to signal whether and how they honor this preference, both in the form of a machine-readable tracking status resource at a well-known location and via a Tk response header field, and a mechanism for allowing the user to approve exceptions to DNT as desired.
Tracking Compliance and Scope. This specification defines the meaning of a Do Not Track (DNT) preference and sets out practices for websites to comply with this preference.

The work would be full-time during the summer, assisting a postdoc in characterizing his recombinant enzyme proteins by growing plasmids up,performing transfections, enzyme assays and Western blots. It is really helpful to have someone who already knows how to make solutions and is a fast learner.

Initial duties may include a combination of the following: ordering and stocking lab supplies, autoclaving, light dishwashing (with machine), preparing buffers, and assisting postdoctoral fellows with routine assays, plasmid preps, and Western blots.

Pay ranges between $10-13/hr depending on whether you have previous laboratory experience. Student should be available to work full-time during the Summer and preferably at least part-time during the Fall. Please see http://thelindberglab.com for information on the laboratory.

Minimum GPA: 3.0

Tell Me

If you were running the TurningPoint session on the house computer:

- You need to save your session on a USB drive
- upload it to UMBC's Box.com, or
- upload file UMBC's Google Drive

Saving to My Documents on the lecture hall computer only saves it locally to that computer and not accessible anywhere else.

Campus Movie Fest is a campus wide movie making competition that is open to all students, and is absolutely free. Winners get the chance to have their film shown at CMF national event in Hollywood, California in June! The winners also get a discount on badges (tickets) to the CMF Hollywood event. The final screening takes place on Saturday, May 4th in ITE 104. Doors at 7, Show starts at 7:30.

Free Music Friday features local bands performing in Lower Flat Tuesdays in The Commons, starting at 9:00pm on Friday.
