 Today we honor the legacy of the recently deceased Senator George McGovern.

Despite his infamous defeat in a landslide election to Richard Nixon in 1972, McGovern ran for President again in 1984.

The kicker is, had voters known about Watergate in the same timely fashion we learn of Presidential snafus today, McGovern might have won the 1972 campaign. Whomp whomp.

Just think what the country had been like had voters been better informed and Nixon had lost! 

With today’s incredible access to information, it is easy for we voters can stay on top of the campaign news… if we are motivated. And we should stay motivated to be sure mistakes like Nixon are not replicated.

The other big lesson from the Senator: don’t accept anything lying down.

After four years in the House of Representatives, he was one of the senators for South Dakota from 1963 to 1981. He helped create the Food for Peace program, which sent US food overseas as a form of international aid, and became its first director in 1961. 

Former President Clinton said of McGovern:

I believe no other presidential candidate ever has had such an enduring impact in defeat.

• I wish every voter could have the experience of truly getting to know people who are superficially different from themselves along as many dimensions as possible (including race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, geographic origin, citizenship status, religion, political ideology and life experience).  I want everyone who votes to understand the impact of alternative choices through many people's eyes.

• I wish every voter could have the experience of working successfully with others to solve a serious community problem or build an important new resource.  That would position them to anticipate the outcome of alternative courses of action, and to evaluate candidates' competing claims.

• I wish every voter could have a thorough education in climate science and natural resource economics, so they could trace the impact of our consumption and pollution on long-term weather patterns, sea levels, ecosystems, the ice caps, the ozone layer, and our water supply.  Voters with that knowledge could anticipate consequences of different energy policies, and evaluate candidates based in part on how their actions would contribute to the sustainability of planetary resources on which all our lives and our well-being depend.

MCMyAdmin: Web based backend for running the server.

            Commands:

                        /goto xxxx : Teleports you to the player named xxxx. Abbreviations/first 4 letters

                        Of player names may be used instead. Please don’t abuse this.

/tell xxxx yyyy : Sends private message yyyy to player xxxx.  Accepts abbreviations

/lastseen xxxx: When was the last time player xxxx was online. Accepts abbreviations

Coreprotect: Allows for “rollbacks”. You can choose to change blocks within a certain radius back to a state that they were in at any time in the past. For now the commands in this mod are limited to admin use as means to roll back any potential greifing. Blocks can be excluded from rollbacks, so make sure your chests are protected! Also, unprotected chests don’t have their contents saved by this plugin due to the LWC plugin so be careful and protect your chests!

Multiverse-Core: Allows for multiple worlds.

            Commands:

Multiverse-Portals: Portal system that allows for portals of any size/material, and can link up to another portal or coordinates. Admin only access for now.

MZEHome: Allows users to set and warp home.

Commands:

/sethome : Sets the coordinates as your personal spawnpoint/bed. The plugin only supports one “home” per player per world.

/home : Warps to your home in the current world. Has a 2 minute cooldown between uses.

LWC: Allows users to add protection to chests, doors, furnaces, dispensers, and signs. NOTE: Core-Protect is NOT compatible with mod, so chest contents cannot be restored if they are destroyed. As long as chests are private or given permissions, they are indestructible.

            Commands:

                        /cprivate: type this and then punch a block to make it private

                        /cprivate playername g:GroupName : Specify who is allowed to access the block   

                        /cremove : Enter to chat then punch a chest to remove all permissions on the chest

                        /cmodify: add/remove players to a specific block’s permissions add a “-“ before

                        The player or group you want to remove from a blocks access permissions.

In the final weeks before the election, the presidential campaign can only be described as something between a high school rivalry and an afternoon soap opera. Here are five of this week’s weirdest moments from the race.

1. Voter registration dumping

A Republican consultant was arrested earlier this week after thousands of voter registration forms were found in a dumpster. The fraud was uncovered when a student at James Madison University tried to verify changes to her registration online and found that the form had never been submitted. This is the third instance of registration dumping that has occurred in Virginia.

2. Biased debate moderators

Everyone was excited to finally see some female debate moderators … until they sided with the Democrats. Martha Raddatz continually interrupted vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, and Candy Crowley defended President Obama when challenged about his handling of consulate attack in Benghazi.

3. Staged photo op

Paul Ryan decided to make a campaign stop at the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society soup kitchen for a 15 minute appearance on his way to the airport. He proceeded to wash dishes that reportedly weren’t even dirty, and Brian J. Antal, the charity’s president, later said that Ryan did not obtain permission for the visit. Now, the soup kitchen is losing money from donors over what Antal calls an “embarrassing” incident.

4. Biden’s behavior

Speaking of vice presidential candidates … we don’t know what happened to the old Biden, but the new one giggles incessantly and says “malarkey.” In his most recent display of bizarre behavior, Biden called tax plan “etch-a-sketch-y” and told Ryan that “the bullets are aimed at you” in regards to his recent book about Americans’ dependence on the government.

5. What did he just say?

Both presidential candidates have said things this week that have made us shake our heads. Thanks to Romney, “binders full of women” went viral after he tried to explain his efforts to include women in his cabinet as the former governor of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, Obama followed suit in coining a new term, saying that his opponent’s changes in stance in the days leading to the election can only be a result of “Romnesia.”
