Do you have an idea that you would love to share with a community of entrepreneurs to receive feedback? This event is your opportunity!

The Alex. Brown Center’s next event of the semester will be held Friday, February 24th from 11:30-1pm in University Center 310!

The Idea Pitch Day event is a great time to get feedback on your idea or existing business and find other students that might be interested in helping you as well as learning more about the CBIC. This is the perfect opportunity for students who want to enter the competition to informally pitch their idea to an audience as a way to receive feedback in a casual, relaxed setting.

If you aren't sure you're ready to submit an idea, that's OK! This event is a great time to get feedback on your preliminary idea or existing business, and to find other students interested in helping you. It will also give you a chance to learn more about the ABCEI's competitions and events.

The CBIC is almost here! The submission form for the annual Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition is now live!

The CBIC is designed for students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture. Students selected to go to the final competition will be paired with mentors to flesh out their business idea. This year, the ABCEI will offer 2 tracks: the Technology & Innovation Track and Social Impact Track. Winners in each track can win up to $3,000 with an opportunity to win an additional $2,000 after a 6 month progress review.

Here are the important dates to remember:
       - Deadline for submissions: March 3 at 1pm
       - Final Event: April 17 from 6:30 - 8:30pm at bwTECH South

Black & Gold Rush is a 36-hour giving challenge designed to bring Retrievers together to support the UMBC community and its students, faculty, and staff. Association of Old Crows APG-Susquehanna Chapter Student Scholarship

Scholarship Amount: $2000

Applicants: Students must be undergraduate degree-seeking in the areas of engineering, Information technologies, or computer sciences/engineering and be able to articulate a career interest related to the AOC professional mission in the fields of military communications, electronic warfare, electromagnetic spectrum management operations, cyber electromagnetic activities, and/or information operations. For example, a future career on a team that: develops systems that protect pilots from enemy anti-aircraft weapons and ground troops and civilians from IEDs or develops tools and programs to counter enemy cyber-attacks.

Instructions: Please complete the application (attached) and essay and return to your school representative with two academic reference letters of from your current university/college. Please see the attached application instructions and application form for more details. 

Submission Deadline: April 4, 2025. Please submit your application and all required documents electronically to Emily Stephens (eastephe@umbc.edu) by April 4, 2025.

UMBC's Department of Information Technology (DoIT) has been exploring how new generative artificial intelligence systems can make the myUMBC  platform better for students, faculty, and staff, all while ensuring security and privacy. MyUMBC is a web portal that provides access to services and resources for the UMBC community of faculty, staff and students.

The search system on MyUMBC now uses an AI model to  make it easier and quicker for students to find what they need with AI. This helps provide fast, accurate answers to common student questions.

A key focus is helping students access important personal information—like grades, billing statements, and Retriever Card balances—right from the search bar. This means students can find what they need quickly, without having to dig through the system, while knowing their data is protected.

DoIT is looking at how AI can further improve the myUMBC experience, from academic support to campus life to create a more efficient and personalized platform. 

Currently answers are focused on student-related questions and scenarios with supporting questions from faculty and staff still in development. Students are advised to verify any information before they take action. If you identify any mistakes, please let the developers know using the “Was this useful” feature at the bottom of each answer.

Welcome to Week 1 of Tabletop Gaming Club for the Spring 2025 Semester!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you for electing me to the role of interim Vice President, it is an honor to have the privilege of serving the club in Matt's stead, and I promise I will do my absolute best to fulfill this role. 

Unfortunately, our first official meeting must be postponed due to inclement weather. We really do not want any UMBC students, let alone our own club members, getting hurt or otherwise out in the ice and snow. Please do not try to come to the club room today, it will not be open, and no officers will be present. 

However, because we do not want to completely lose out on a day of club, I will be hosting a virtual game night through the club discord server. Starting around 7:00 pm, I will open a few new Voice Channels and Text Channels temporarily for a virtual club meeting. You can feel free to join various  VCs to play games supported by discord or join in on Jackbox games hosted by yours truly.
