Day #4: Inquiring Question #4 – “Pardon your servant,...

Full Title: Day #4: Inquiring Question #4 – “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent…”
Passage: Exodus 4:10-12

10 Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”

11 The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Reflect:

“But I can’t do this. I’m not good at it…” Even after we have experienced the Promise and Presence of God, even after we realize we have been transformed and healed, we may look at ourselves and see that our talents and abilities don’t seem adequate to ‘do the things’ we have been called to. For Moses, God was calling him to do the very thing he had never been able to do: speak. But what the Lord says in response to Moses speaks to the intimacy of His work in the life of the called. “Who gave human beings their mouths? Now go; I will help you and will teach you what to say.” As creator of the human tongue, God would certainly know how to make Moses’ mouth speak! It is in this intimate way that God promises to teach and change us as well.

Respond:

The incredible promise of God is that he will teach and instruct us in a personal and intimate way. He is our personal tutor! What is it that God called us to, yet we are fearful and unable? May the Lord, who created us and all things, teach us to speak, play music, administrate, exercise patience, show love, and more. As God’s called people let us open our hearts to our wonderful tutor who eagerly pours out His instruction, enabling us to do what was never possible for us to do alone. Whether we are called to a campus, a workplace, or to a community, let’s respond to the Lord’s teaching and leading.
