The Department of Human Resources and Strategic Talent

We especially want to highlight the Employee Assistance Program through ComPsych and Guidance
Resources, which has a myriad of resources:

sessions with a licensed
counselor.

on various topics such as resiliency, emotional well-being, grief & loss,
stress and anger management, plus many others.

ComPsych Huddles: these are
interactive online groups intended to help you learn, grow and explore topics
meaningful to your own well-being goals and self-care journey. When you join a Huddle, you will have the
opportunity to learn key information on the topic, engage in discussion with
your peers, and participate in live practices - all led by a ComPsych care
professional. Huddles are offered on a variety of well-being topics aimed to
improve self-care, resiliency, and well-being.

ACT NOW! TODAY, November 6th is the LAST day to Withdraw!
Students can still Withdraw "W" or Change to S/U Grading
TODAY, Wednesday, November 6th is the deadline to withdraw from individual courses "W" OR change grading methods to Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory "S/U".
W/S/U course options count as an attempt in the class but do NOT impact your GPA.
If withdrawing from one or more courses will bring you to less than full time status (12 credits) there may be impacts in other areas such as scholarship, financial aid, and on-campus housing. Questions about those areas should be directed to the appropriate office.
You will want to work through this helpful withdraw worksheet for more information on the withdraw policy, procedure, and checklist BEFORE you make any decisions.
Additional information comparing and contrasting W/S/U course options can be found HERE.
Withdrawing from individual courses can be done via the Schedule and Registration system in myUMBC however S/U grading requires the submission of a Help Ticket. Information about S/U grading and the link to submit the Help Ticket can be found here.
Students can withdraw from the entire semester though the last day of classes, December 10th.
Be sure to confer with your assigned advisor about your academic options. Students who are assigned to a CNMS professional Advisor (Powers, Crosby, Racine, Barnaby) can drop by for walk-in advising support in UC 205 from 10:30-4PM today.
Not sure how to calculate your grades OR what grades you will need to pass your classes? Consider using CNMS Advising's grade and GPA tracker/calculator (prompts an automatic download). When using this tracking tool, be sure to input grades that are not just possible, but probable and refer to your course syllabus to determine grade weights.

Please join us for an enlightening dialogue with fish philosopher, artist, and activist-scholar Zoe Todd.
This talk will explore the trajectories that guide my team's 'Critical Indigenous Fish Philosophy', starting with the fish philosophers that inform my current work. First and foremost, my late stepfather, Wayne Roberts, who was a Red River Métis scientist who passionately defended fish, amphibians, and all manner of creatures in his career in Alberta and ignited my passion for fish science when I was a child. I will also share how the work of founders of the discipline of Indigenous Studies, including Vine Deloria Jr and Leroy Little Bear, among others, shape my current thinking about fish, sovereignty and my team's efforts to build an anti-imperialist prairie fish science in our homelands.
Presenter Bio:
Zoe Todd (Citizen, Manitoba Métis Federation) is a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Indigenous Governance and Freshwater Fish Futures at Simon Fraser University. They are a fish philosopher, artist, and activist-scholar from Alberta working towards establishing better ways to honour collective human obligations to fish in the prairies. They are also a co-founder of the Institute for Freshwater Fish Futures (2018), which is an interdisciplinary collective of Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, scientists, lawyers, architects, journalists, historians, advocates, and trouble-makers working to acknowledge our collective responsibilities to fish and water across plural watersheds and homelands in Canada and internationally.
This event is being hosted as a part of the 2024-2025 Launch of the Public Stories lab which includes a events Co-sponsored by The Division of Professional Studies and Community Leadership Programs, The Shriver Center, The Minor in Critical Disability Studies, Department of Geography and Environmental Systems, Department of American Studies, Language, Literacy, and Culture Doctoral Program, Dresher Center Faculty group on Digital Storytelling.
