Travel System - Foreign Per Diem

<Tagline>Travel System will now calculate Foreign Per Diem</Tagline>

We are excited to announce a significant enhancement to our Travel System, made possible by the exceptional efforts of Ken Schreihofer and Frank Elmore from DoIT. The system now has the remarkable ability to automatically calculate Foreign Per Diem.

Thanks to Ken and Frank, the U.S. State Department's Per Diem schedule is seamlessly integrated into our Travel System. This integration eliminates the need for travelers and preparers to manually look up the M&IE rates, streamlining the process and saving valuable time.

Additionally, please note that incidentals, such as maid service tips and porter tips, are now included within the Per Diem. These expenses should no longer be itemized separately.

For detailed instructions on the new enhancement, please refer to the attached document.

    Abstract:

"In the western United States, extreme weather events, such as dust storms and wildfires, are rising in response to climate change. Dust storms impose substantial risks to many sectors of USA society, including human health, environmental health, transportation safety and the general economy. Despite the high stakes, risks associated with dust hazards remain largely understudied and knowledge is rather fragmented. Gaps between knowledge and public awareness are costly for affected communities. This work presents recent advances in linking climate change to dust storm trends and human health and safety, including Valley fever (Coccidioidomycosis), and dust-related traffic fatalities. We will also discuss ongoing dust research at World Meteorological Organization and opportunities for international collaboration."

Dr. Daniel Tong is Associate Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Director of Cooperative Institute of Satellite and Earth System Studies at George Mason University (GMU), Virginia, USA. He obtained his B.S. in Chemistry and B.A. in Finance from Ocean University of China, his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from North Carolina State University, and his postdoctoral training in environmental policy at Princeton University. His research focuses on modeling and prediction of natural and anthropogenic emissions, and their effects on air quality, climate, and human health. Dr. Tong is a member of NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Science Team and an affiliated scientist of NOAA National Air Quality Forecast Capability (NAQFC) Team. He chairs the Global Steering Committee of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Sand and Dust Storms Warning Advisory and Assessment System, and is the founding Co-Director of WMO Vegetation Fire Smoke Pollution North America Center.
Networked systems have created new opportunities with major societal implications. At the same time, security has emerged as one of the most important socio-technical challenges confronting society. AI/machine learning (ML) techniques are expected to enable networked systems and enhance security. In this talk, I will present my recent research on networked systems and security in the age of AI/ML. First, I will introduce my ML-enabled Counter Unmanned Aircraft System(s) (C-UAS) technology that detects and safely neutralizes rogue drones without destroying them or causing them to crash. This research has been featured by 100+ news media outlets. Next I will present my follow-up research on real-time ML for quickest event (threat/intrusion/vulnerability) detection. Then I will introduce my research on data-efficient ML, particularly distant domain transfer learning.
