Hello everyone!
I hope you're having a good last few days of winter break. Thank you to all of you who applied for the Ambassador position! I also want to thank all the applicants for taking time out their breaks to have a short interview with either me or Ashher. With that being said, I'm excited to announce our TWO new board members who will be joining us this spring semester! Congratulations to our new RCC Ambassadors Racheal Adeoye and Shaamikh Naroo! We all look forward with starting up again in the next few weeks and hope to see you soon! The Laurel Historical Society is seeking a motivated individual to manage the open hours at the Laurel Museum and complete museum operations and administrative duties. This position requires the ability of the Manager to staff our open hours, Friday through Sunday, 12-4 pm. In addition to this core function, the Administrator will be responsible for duties at the museum and while working remotely. Open hours and other tasks will total 25-30 hours/week.

Having an on-campus job and getting a notation on your transcript that tells employers you made the effort to enhance your professional development!
Interested in gaining a competitive edge in the job market? Sign up for PRAC 102- Building Skills for Career Success this Spring semester. Don't worry, it's not a formal class! With the minimal commitment of attending a few workshops and career events, you will be better prepared for the world of work and have the proof on your college transcript to show your employer.
DEADLINE TO REQUEST ENROLLMENT: Friday, February 29
Make your campus experience count! Enroll TODAY! Enrollment is limited to the first 40 student employees. Don't let this opportunity pass you by!
Open to all levels and majors. You must be a UMBC student employee working at least eight hours per week on campus.
How to Register Online
Log in to Handshake, then navigate to Career Center > Experiences.
Click "Request an Experience" and select "Career Center -- On-Campus Student Employment (PRAC 102- Building Skills for Career Success)" as the Experience Type. Fill in the required fields and submit.
Your registration will be reviewed within two business days. The Career Center will enroll you directly upon review along with sending you additional details.

Winter Welcome Week 2024
Check out some of the special events taking place around campus next week as part of Winter Welcome Week 2024! From breakfast socials and opportunities to visit and chat with organizations and offices around campus to basketball games and the returning favorite Big Breakfast with Bingo, there's something for everyone on the schedule! Gilman Study Abroad Scholarships - Application Open
Have you thought about study abroad, but wonder about how to pay for it? If you receive Pell grants as part of your financial aid, or are the child of an active duty service member in the military, the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship program may be just the thing for you!
The Gilman scholarships award up to $8000 to support study abroad for students with demonstrated financial need. UMBC's Education Abroad Office will host several information sessions about the program in February - be sure to attend! The Gilman scholarship application deadline is March 7!
Other Study Abroad Opportunities - Start Planning Now!
If the Gilman program isn't a good fit, but you still want to consider study abroad this summer, or for some or all of the 2024-25 academic year, start planning now! The Education Abroad office has created a useful road map of the steps you'll need to take to plan the perfect study abroad experience - check out their myUMBC post today, and contact them for more information!
Internships Available - Maryland Public Service Scholars
Do you have any plans this summer? Consider applying for one of the Maryland Public Service Scholars Program's summer internships! These paid opportunities give students a chance to explore careers in government agencies and nonprofit organizations and make a difference in the lives of Marylanders.
Applications for this competitive program are due March 1 - and more information is available at one of the Program's information sessions.
