Reminder: Early Timesheet Approvals for Period Ending 12/16
Early approval deadline
CRITICAL: *Please share
this information with your departmental employees*
Due to the upcoming winter holiday break and early file
submissions to the Central Payroll Bureau, the Payroll and HRIS units are
required to meet strict and compressed processing deadlines. As a result, the
deadline for timesheet approvals has been impacted for the period ending
12/16/2023 (timesheets for pay period 2024-13).
Timesheet submissions and approvals
for pay period
2024-13 (ending 12/16/2023) are due by 5 pm on Monday, December 18,
2023. Although timesheets may be submitted
early, the approver may NOT approve the timesheet before the pay period has
ended (not prior to December 17, 2023).
Due to the extremely tight ETS approval deadline, timesheet approvers must coordinate with their employees to
ensure timesheets are submitted in enough time for review and approvals.
Timesheet approvers who will not be available to review and approve timesheets
should communicate with the payroll preparer and alternate approver
accordingly.
Late timesheet submissions and approvals will have a critical
impact to hourly employees' pay, employees earning overtime, and leave
information in time entry for PR14. Timesheet data for pay period 13 must
be approved in order to load into time entry for payroll 14.
Time entry for PR14 is a ONE DAY time entry and
is scheduled to open on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

3D digital models to facilitate new discoveries and virtual reality environments in the classroom

This talk will present a number of case studies in digital humanities, with particular emphasis on the potential of 3D digital models to facilitate new discoveries and virtual reality environments to extend student experience in the classroom.
Matthew Brennan is a PhD candidate (ABD) in Informatics at Indiana University. Matt's research focuses on the application of technologies (particularly immersive technologies, like virtual reality) to traditionally 'humanities' fields such as art history, archeology, and architectural history. His background is in architectural design and architectural history, and Matt has taught undergraduate- and graduate-level courses at Indiana University. In 2019-2020, Matthew received a 1-year Rome Prize in Historic Preservation and Conservation at the American Academy in Rome, to pursue research on the dissertation topic: the
South Theater of Hadrian's Villa.

Racial Equity and Social Change
Amery Thompson, assistant director for transfer student success, and Dr. Griselda Flores, director of Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) presented at NASPA's Racial Equity and Social Change Conference in December 2023.
Entitled: "Creating Successful Pathways for Black Male Transfer Students in STEM" the presentation focused on the importance of creating pathways for Black male transfer students in STEM, ways to develop intentional partnerships across divisions, as well as the significance that mentorship programs can play in the success of these students during their time in college. It also highlighted work by UMBC and its University Innovation Alliance partners to establish a scholarship program, Students Transferring and Redefining Success or STARS.

Better Not Pout, Better Not Cry, It's an AFAC Gathering!
It's the end of the semester, come on out and join us!
The clock is ticking, and we think we might hear little bells in the distance! Joy is coming and what better way to enjoy that than some time with your fellow adjuncts, good food, and drinks of your choice.
Tomorrow early evening we will gather at Matthew's 1600 from 4:30 until the last adjunct leaves. Matthew's is located at 1600 Frederick Road just a few minutes from campus.
We really want to see as many of you as can make it, even if it's just for a short time, please do join us to toast the
end of semester!
We hate sounding like a broken record, but there's value in building community among adjuncts at UMBC and this is just one way AFAC's doing that. We do appreciate those that have attended before and hope many more will join us in the future. So the future is tomorrow, see you
