This Sunday, November 23, 2025, UMBC will host the Girls on the Run 5K, bringing approximately 2,000 participants to our campus. To prioritize the safety of all runners, specific campus areas will be closed to vehicular traffic between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

To accommodate this event, all UMBC Transit routes between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. will begin and end in the Stadium Lot. Campus residents are encouraged to walk to the Stadium Lot to access our buses.

We understand these temporary changes may impact your travel plans, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Our team is committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring a smooth and reliable transit experience for all riders.

1. Understand Yourself Before You Decide

Self-assessment is the first step in making confident career choices. By identifying your interests, values, personality, and skills, you can better understand what motivates you and what kind of work environment fits you best. Knowing yourself helps you focus your energy on career paths that feel both exciting and sustainable.

2. Take the FOCUS 2 Career Assessment

The FOCUS 2 assessment is a great starting point for exploring majors and careers that align with your interests and strengths. It provides personalized results and connects them to real-world occupations, giving you a clearer picture of what might be a good fit. After completing it, you can set up a 60-minute Review Assessments: FOCUS 2 Results appointment with a career advisor to discuss next steps.

3. Discover Your Personality with the MBTI

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) helps you better understand your personality preferences — how you process information, make decisions, and interact with others. This insight can be incredibly helpful when choosing a career or navigating work environments. Many students find that the MBTI helps them understand not only what they want to do, but how they want to do it. In order to see your MBTI results, booking a 60-minute Review Assessments: MBTI Results appointment with a career advisor is required.

4. Use Assessments as a Starting Point

While assessments can offer valuable guidance, they're just one part of the process. Use your results as a foundation for further exploration — research career fields, talk to professionals, and consider internships that align with your interests. Pairing insight with action is the key to building a fulfilling path forward.

Hi everyone! I'm a transfer student coming from out of state, and I'm looking for housing and potential male roommates near UMBC. I'm open to renting a room in a shared house or teaming up with others to lease together.

What I'm hoping for:

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a five-day immersive learning experience for UMBC undergraduate and graduate students to explore the systemic and human dimensions of complex social issues in Baltimore. Participants will spend much of the week in Baltimore City connecting with local leaders, policymakers, organizations, and community members, to gain a nuanced understanding of the resources and challenges related to their topic areas. The program supports students in linking their knowledge and interests to local contexts, and in identifying pathways for long-term community engagement.

This year's ASB program will take place from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, 2026. Participants spend much of the week in small groups, each co-led by UMBC students trained by the Center for Democracy and Civic Life, exploring a specific topic in depth. 

This year's focus areas are:

• Housing Equity and Access
• Justice in Psychiatric Care
• Fostering LGBT+ Belonging in Schools

Complete the ASB 2026 application by December 19, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Accepted and waitlisted applicants will be notified via email in late January.
