How does it work? If you currently have an outstanding citation for this semester ($50

or less), you can donate 5 non-perishable or 5 toiletry items to Parking Services

(located at 900 Walker Avenue), and we will reduce one citation to a warning (citation

Visit parking.umbc.edu for the top requested items. We cannot accept expired items,

As part of our ongoing commitment
to security, the Unix Infrastructure group will be conducting its
quarterly system patching on Friday, November 21st and
Saturday, November 22nd. While many of the systems will be patched
without any service disruption, there are some systems which require the
downtime of key services. The schedule below outlines which key
services will be offline and for how long.

Friday, 11/21/2025 between 5pm and 10pm (most systems will only be down for a short period during this time):

Access to Cyrus (legacy) email (accounts not migrated to UMBC Gmail)

All mail will be queued up and delivered after the server is patched

All HFS (afs) servers - gl.umbc.edu home directories will be offline

Between 9:00pm and 10pm only: Certain software licenses will be unavailable (autodesk, cadence, idl, schrodinger, xilinx, mathematica).

Between 9:00pm and 10pm only: The
web hosting environments (virthost) will be partially unavailable
(pages will be available but any database calls will not work)

Between 5:00pm and 6:30pm only: LDAP-Master and Webadmin will
be taken down for system maintenance. During this time account
creations and password changes will be unavailable. Account
authentication and logins will not be affected.

Saturday, 11/22/2025 between 7am and 8am (most systems will only be down for a short period during this time):

myUMBC lite page will be up resulting in reduced myUMBC functionality

At UMBC, registration eligibility is determined by your number of earned credits and a comprehensive chart for all registration dates/times can be found here. **You can also verify your specific date/time for registration via your myUMBC account. **

As a reminder, however, advising clearance is mandatory every semester before you can register so if you haven't reached out to your advisor yet – what are you waiting for?!? Keep in mind that advising is by appointment only and availability can be limited during this time of the semester. Check your myUMBC email (sent on or around October 2nd) for your advisor assignment and further instructions. Advisor assignments can also be found via the CNMS Advising website here (by major) and via your myUMBC Profile. Newly or recently declared life science majors who do not have a listed advisor assignment should contact CNMSAdvising@umbc.edu for support.

** PLEASE NOTE: You will want to seek advising clearance as soon as possible and regardless of any other holds you may have on your account (financial, housing, ECR Training, health, etc.). Delaying your advising appointment may mean that your assigned advisor no longer has as much availability for clearance/support once the dedicated advising season has come to an end. **

Throughout the week, CNMS Advising is also holding walk-in registration/schedule building support in The Learning Collaboratory (UC 115) during Study Hall hours today 11/13 from 1PM-4PM and tomorrow 11/14 from 10AM-4PM. Peer advisors will be available to help you organize and build your schedule for next semester. In particular, they can assist with navigating Schedule Builder and utilizing the Class Search functionality. Please note that this support does NOT include academic advising, course suggestions, and/or advising clearance. Only your assigned advisor can provide that.

November is American Diabetes Month!

<Tagline>85 Years of Progress, Hope, and Action</Tagline>

Since 1940, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has been a relentless force for change and fighting for those affected by diabetes through research, advocacy, education, and community. This American Diabetes Month, we reflect on the journey that has transformed lives and continues to inspire progress.

A Legacy of Breakthroughs and Compassion

1940: The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is born—finally giving Americans with diabetes an organization devoted to their health.

1949: American Diabetes Association (ADA) creates the first camps where kids with diabetes can safely enjoy summer like everyone else.

1952: The American Diabetes Association (ADA) Research Program is founded, accelerating innovation and saving lives.

1963: Scientists invent the first wearable insulin pump, transforming diabetes care forever.

The Good Fight: It All Matters

Eighty-five years later, the ADA remains at the forefront of the fight to end diabetes. From improving access to care and advocating for equitable treatment, to funding cutting-edge research and building supportive communities—the mission endures.

This American Diabetes Month, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and unity of everyone impacted by diabetes—those who live with it, those who support loved ones, and the healthcare heroes who dedicate their lives to care and research.

Supporting Our Community During Diabetes Awareness Month

For UMBC students and employees who are managing diabetes, whether newly diagnosed or navigating ongoing treatment, please know that Student Disability Services (SDS) is here to support you. Diabetes has a broad global impact and meets the definition of a disability. At times, concerns about managing its flares—especially for individuals with Type 1 diabetes—arise, so we encourage students and staff to seek on-campus resources such as:
