Galina Madjaroff's defence

Bio:
Galina Madjaroff is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Erickson School of Aging at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Upon completing her Master’s degree in Management of Aging Services, she pursued a Doctorate in Information Systems with a concentration in Human-Centered
Computing. Galina’s research focuses on improving the lives of older
adults with cognitive impairment through the use of technology. Most recently Galina was awarded a three-year National Science Foundation Grant to explore Negotiating Cyber Systems Access for Older Adults with Mild Neurocognitive Disorder.
Galina will be defending her dissertation work on Nov. 2, 2018.
Talk: "Supporting caregivers and care recipients after the onset of cognitive impairment with home-based technology"
Technology solutions for older adults who want to remain in their home have focused on the burdens of caring for someone with cognitive impairment and characterizing their caregiver as carrying a tremendous liability. Similarly, the care recipient is seen as vulnerable and should be cared for through close monitoring via sensors and assistive technologies. However, there is a gap in understating the needs of the family system as a unit. The solution for home-based technology interventions has thus been focused on the biomedical, declinist, and disease narrative is driven view of cognitive decline. Following a deployment of the Amazon Echo “Alexa”, I conducted interviews, home visits, and dialogue history data to provide a new lens for design for systems in the home by providing relational autonomy for both actors in the family in a way for each person to live in line with their own value and identity.

and territories.
The agenda will include a tour of the Technical
Innovation Center where researchers expand flavor lines and create new ones.
You will have an opportunity to network, learn about McCormick, and the
internship and employment opportunities available. You will also get to sample
snacks from the “Flavor Forecast” where the top trends and innovative flavors
are identified to bring to the market.
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident REQUIRED
