a female roommate. This is a great 2-bedroom apartment in Catonsville in a
safe, quiet and convenient area. The UMBC bus stop is right across the street,
5 minutes to UMBC if you drive (parking is available) and the MTA bus to
Downtown Baltimore stops on the corner of the street. The room is bright and has
two full closets. It is going to be available as early as mid of August (negotiable).
The contract is monthly. The current roommate is a UMBC student. The apartment
has utilities including internet, heating and cooling system and a full kitchen.
The laundry is shared in the building. A deposit fee equal to one month rent
price is required. Surface lot parking is available.
Rent will be $640/mo.

I need to turn the autoclave off due to a small leak in an elbow of the jacket feed pipe.
Getinge has been called, but I'm not certain when they'll be able to get here. While this is currently a small leak, it is a safety issue.
I'm copying Sam Williams in Biology in order to see if we can use their units in the next few days.

Dr. Liang Zhu at the 8th World Congress of Biomechanics

Dr. Liang Zhu attended the 8th World Congress of Biomechanics conference in Dublin, Ireland in July 2018.
Her graduate students and lab collaborators submitted two conference papers to the conference.
One paper was accepted as a podium presentation, and the other in poster presentation in student competition at the MS level.
Dr. Zhu also co-chaired a technical session entitled "Biotransport Diagnostics and Therapeutics".
"It was very productive to directly interact with researchers in the bio transport research field" she reported on her way back from Dublin.

Dr. Christine Mallinson becomes Inaugural Director
UMBC's Center for Social Science Scholarship
The LLC Program is proud to announce that its very own Professor Mallinson has been chosen to head UMBC's new Center for Social Science Scholarship.
Beginning this fall, Dr. Mallinson will be splitting her time between LLC and the new Center. She will be teaching LLC 744 this fall, our foundational methodology course, and continue to advise students.
The new Center has a four-fold mission:
- to seek out, nurture, and promote excellence in the Social Sciences;
- to support and strengthen Social Science scholarship at UMBC, including by convening and connecting scholars with shared interests across disciplines;
- to spotlight Social Science scholarship (research, teaching, and community and professional engagement) at UMBC; and
- to enhance the future of innovative, collaborative, cross- and inter-disciplinary, and cutting edge Social Science scholarship at UMBC.
