WHAT IS THE GIVING PACK?

<Tagline>Four Parts. One Pack.</Tagline>

Welcome to the Pack.

Hilltop Society's Giving Pack is UMBC's all-student movement dedicated to building a culture of philanthropy and engagement among undergraduate students on campus. Members of the Giving Pack aim to educate their peers on the importance of fostering a lifelong relationship with UMBC, encouraging them to support their alma mater with their time, talent, and treasure. The Giving Pack further seeks to facilitate meaningful connection between students, alumni and the campus community each year. Through these functions, Hilltop Society's Giving Pack aims to ensure the continued enhancement of the UMBC experience, ensuring the bright future of our institution.

At the heart of the Giving Pack is our shield. Its four parts represent the strength that comes when every Retriever, first-year, second-year, third-year, and fourth-year, stands together. Alone, each piece is powerful. Together, they form a whole that reflects the best of UMBC: bold, connected, and unstoppable.

Our Goal

Our goal is to build a culture of philanthropy, engagement, and stewardship on campus so that we may continue to support UMBC for generations to come. By educating and engaging current students throughout their time at UMBC, students will leave with a better understanding of the importance and impact of giving back to the university. By creating this culture, we hope to increase the number of students and recent graduates giving to UMBC and establish strong financial support for the university for every Retriever: past, present, and future.

Members of Hilltop Society's Giving Pack have opportunities to network with UMBC alumni, sponsor large campus events and grow as student leaders as they foster engagement and a spirit of giving across campus.

Our Purpose

The Purpose of student philanthropy programs is to educate, engage and excite current UMBC students about the importance and impact of starting to support our university while on campus, with the hopes that this support continues and flourishes after commencement.

Educate. To educate the UMBC student body, beginning in their first year, about the importance and impact of private support for the university.

Engage. To engage students in a meaningful way, empowering them to become student leaders who strive to make a difference on campus through philanthropy and engagement and serve as ambassadors and advocates for the university.

Excite. To excite students about their experiences as undergraduate students and to look forward to becoming alumni so they continue to strengthen their lifelong connection with UMBC.

By joining the Pack, you help expand what philanthropy looks like at UMBC and ensure the Retriever experience stays bold, inclusive, and strong for every student who follows.

One Pack. Endless Impact.

The Cheech. Watch it, discuss it.

<Tagline>Movie Night and Discussion. Hispanic and Latine/x Heritage</Tagline>

T

This event is in collaboration with the Florida State University Hispanic Graduate Student Association (FSU HiGSA). FSU HiGSA aims to promote Hispanic culture at FSU, to generate a support network that helps new graduate students settle and adapt to FSU and the local community, to mentor graduate students to succeed in academic life and goals, and to generate awareness of social and political issues in Hispanic countries and their relationship with the USA.

For this event we are meeting to talk about the film, The Cheech. The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum showcases the actor's collection of more than 700 pieces by Mexican-American artists. Told through perspectives of established artists and those who know him best, the film tells his journey from comedy icon to Chicano art advocate. Director Varda Bar-Kar, Producer Alessandra Pasquino, and Artists Michael Alvarez, Alfonso Gonzalez Jr., and Jaime Muñoz will be joining us for a special guest Q&A!

Here is a link to where you can watch the film for free. >>Click here to watch The Cheech for free<<

The way this works is that everyone watches the film on their own BEFORE the event, then we meet on zoom to discuss. We break everyone out into randomized small groups of around 4 or 5 people, give them a discussion prompt, and give them about 20 minutes or so to discuss in their randomized groups. We will do multiple rounds of small group discussion with different groups and different prompts. This gives everyone an opportunity to meet new people and hear a variety of voices and perspectives throughout the night. Finally, we will end the night with a special guest Q&A!

When: Sunday, September 21st, 7 - 9 pm Eastern Time, but you don't have to stay the entire time. It is very flexible so people can come late or leave early if needed.

Where: Virtual, The zoom info will be available once you RSVP on the Eventbrite page. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/special-virtual-documentary-night-tickets-1242639772009

Mandatory CITI Research Security Training, Deadline 10/1/2025

<Tagline>Reminder to please complete your Research Security Training</Tagline>

This is a reminder to please complete CITI's Research
Security Training (Combined Course) if you have not already done so by
10/1/2025. This training is required by multiple federal grant funding agencies
and is especially important for key personnel who are on existing awards. CITI estimates this training to take around
    1 hour to complete.

Please follow the steps below to add the course to your
    account:

Step 1: Log into your CITI account via UMBC's single
    sign on.
Step 2: At the top of the Welcome page, select My Courses.
Step 3: Under Institutional Courses, select View Courses.
Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of your Course Page and select Add a
    Course.
Step 5: Scroll down the Curriculum Page to Question 12 and select
    Research Security Training (Combined Course).
Step 6: Hit Submit. Your new course will now appear on your
    Course Page.

Troubleshooting Tips:

Per CITI's Support Center, if you experience any issues,
such as getting stuck on a slide within the module, try navigating back 1–3
slides and then proceed forward again. This allows the stuck slide to fully
load any content or sections that may have been skipped. The issue often occurs
when users click through slides too quickly or use the playback bar to
fast-forward, which can disrupt the module's progress.

For the best performance, please use one of the following
supported browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari. Please do not switch between browsers prior
    to completing this training.

If you encounter any issues or have further questions, feel
free to reach out to ORPC at researchintegrity@umbc.edu.
