The Arts Management Specialist will support UMBC's efforts to raise the visibility of its programs and public events in the visual and performing arts. Through marketing and communications, the Arts Management Specialist will develop new audiences for events and will strengthen engagement with existing audiences.

The APHA annual meeting is being held in DC from Nov 2-5, 2025
APHA’s Public Health Career Fair will be an opportunity for job seekers and top employers in the greater D.C. metro area to connect. The Career Fair will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 4.
This event is free for job seekers to attend and will be an excellent opportunity to explore openings in public health and medical spaces. Whether attending APHA’s Annual Meeting and Expo in Washington, D.C. or not, we encourage job seekers to register now and save the date. |

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students receiving a Federal Pell Grant to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. These awards offer up to $8,000 to support your study abroad plans.
The program aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions. The program also encourages students to study languages, especially critical-need languages (those deemed important to national security). Veterans of military service are encouraged to apply, and preference is given to veterans when other factors are equivalent.
The deadline for the next application cycle, for students interested in studying abroad during the Winter 2026, Spring 2026, Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 is Friday, October 3, 2026, at 11:59 pm (PST).
The UMBC Education Abroad Office will sponsor several information sessions and essay guidance to help students learn about the Gilman program, as well as offer guidance for a competitive application.

The Office of Research Protections and Compliances Department of Animal Welfare and Assurance (DAWA) will have office hours from 7:00am- 12:00pm on Wednesdays in the ILSB room 051B. Whether you’re wrapping up your undergraduate or graduate degree, the final semester isn’t just about finishing papers and projects — it’s also about preparing for what comes next. The good news is that you don’t have to wait until after commencement to start your job search or build your professional momentum. With the right strategy, you can step confidently into the workforce before you toss that cap in the air.
1. Start Early and Stay Organized
Employers often begin recruiting well before graduation dates. Create a system to track job postings, applications, and follow-ups, whether that’s through a platform like Huntr or just a good old spreadsheet. Treat your job search like another class — set deadlines, make checklists, and hold yourself accountable. Find an accountability buddy, if possible, who is also graduating.
2. Leverage Your Network
Your professors, advisors, classmates, and alumni are valuable connections. Share your career goals and ask for advice or introductions. Check out Retrievers Connect or LinkedIn for possible leads to request informational interviews. A single conversation could open doors to opportunities you didn’t even know existed.
3. Polish Your Professional Materials
Your resume and LinkedIn profile should reflect your most recent projects, internships, and accomplishments. Tailor each application to the role you want by emphasizing relevant skills and measurable outcomes. Quantify your achievements whenever you can, and don’t just reiterate your job description. Showcase the impact you’ve made on an organization.
4. Gain Exposure Beyond the Classroom
If you still have time before graduation, consider short-term opportunities like micro-internships, freelance projects, job simulations, or research assistant roles. These experiences show employers your initiative and ability to apply what you’ve learned.
5. Prepare for Interviews with Confidence
Practice common interview questions, prepare stories that highlight your strengths using the STAR technique, and rehearse your 30-second commercial. Confidence comes from preparation — so put in the time now to reduce nerves later. You can even practice by doing a mock interview through the Big Interview platform or by scheduling a Career Center appointment.
