On the heels of the successful “AI, Privacy, and Ethics Symposium” of April 2024, we’re back with a new iteration! Please join us for this fall’s AI Symposium, titled “Exploring the Gadgets & Gizmos in Your AI Toolkit.” This fall’s series will highlight various topics ranging from Google Gemini and its integration into UMBC platforms, to the broader legal implications of using generative AI, and much more! This free symposium will be held virtually at noon via Webex on Wednesdays beginning October 1st through November 12th.

Assessment 365 is back! If you are new to our division Assessment 365 is a year-long approach to highlighting assessment and research initiatives happening around the Division of Student Affairs.

Goals of Assessment 365 programming include:

If you are planning on presenting your topic at a local or national conference it is a good opportunity to practice your delivery in front of a group of your peers. Presenters will be considered for the DoSA Excellence in Assessment and Impact Award. Visit our Google Form to submit your proposal. The form asks you the following questions:
  • Name(s) of presenter(s)
  • Presentation title
  • Brief abstract of presentation (no more than 1 paragraph in length). This will be used to market your presentation.

Ready to present? Please do the following:

We need presenters for the following dates with all sessions completely virtual and running from 1-2pm on Tuesdays:

September 23, October 21, November 18, December 16, January 27, February 24, March 24, April 21, May 26, June 23.

If one of these dates/times does not work for you, submit a form anyway- Mary Ellen will work with you to arrange a date and time to present that works with your schedule. 

Presentations can range anywhere from 15-50 minutes, it is up to you! Additionally, if you think you may have an idea but are unsure where to start in developing your presentation, refer to the attached template for guidance or set up some time to talk with Mary Ellen. You are not required to use this template, it is provided as a resource.

The Earth Observatory Image of the Day for August 25, 2025, "A Sea Aswirl With Chlorophyll," provides a look at "PACE’s Ocean Color Instrument (OCI), which extends a decades-long record of chlorophyll-a measurements in ocean surface waters." In particular, "the images of the southern Norwegian Sea were created using observations made by PACE’s OCI on July 12, 2025."
