Hello UMBC community,

We are still seeking volunteer support for our 2025 Annual UMBC McNair and Undergraduate Research Conference!! This is a national conference for undergraduate researchers to present their work, and our highlight is the variety of opportunities for students to connect with each other and our volunteer community.


Our conference will take place on campus on 9/18 (Thurs) and at Inner Harbor Sheraton on 9/19 and 9/20 (Fri and Sat). We would love to have faculty, staff, UMBC or McNair alumni, or current graduate students as part of our volunteers! Some roles you may sign up for include:

  • Poster Evaluators (Thurs only): Join us during the respective poster presentation session and engage with poster presenters, then fill out a presentation evaluation form that will go directly to the student to improve their presentation skills!
  • Oral Presentation Moderators (Fri and Sat): Assist us in keeping the flow of oral presentations by introducing presenters, keeping time, and then facilitating the Q&A sessions within the breakout room
  • Networking Facilitators (Sat only): Join us for Networking Breakfast or Lunch and have meaningful conversations with current undergraduate students aiming for graduate studies - share your knowledge and wisdoms to students with aspirations like your younger self!

If you are willing to volunteer, please complete the 2025 Conference Volunteer Form. We are asking volunteers to give at least 3 hours of their time. We will need approximately 60 volunteers throughout the three primary conference days to accomplish our goals. We have over 175 presenters and will host at least 350 attendees! If you are willing to do more, please let us know on the form.

NEW THIS YEAR: In addition to our Volunteer Guide, which will be released digitally to our confirmed volunteers prior to the start of the conference, we will also be hosting a 1-hour "Conference Volunteer Training Session" on September 3rd (Wed) from 12-1pm EST via Zoom!

We are excited to announce that we have a few spots for CWIT Affiliates to participate in CWIT’s Industry Mentoring Program (IMP) for the 2025-26 academic year. If you are selected, you will be matched with a professional in a computing or engineering field to help guide you through your academic and professional journey.

Mentors are professionals with at least three years of full-time experience in computing and engineering fields. This is a great chance to get one-on-one advice and insight from someone working in an area you're interested in!

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, you must be a CWIT Affiliate who is a sophomore, junior, or senior.

Program Commitment

This is a semester-long practicum that requires a few commitments on your part. Please only apply if you are able to:

The deadline for 2026 staff award nominations is Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
  • University System of Maryland Board of Regents' Staff Awards: recognizing demonstrated excellence in one of five specific areas of work
  • UMBC Presidential Distinguished Staff Awards: recognizing exceptional performance, leadership, and/or service
  • Jakubik Family Endowment Staff Award for Exempt or Nonexempt Staff: recognizing contributions toward the success of UMBC students
  • Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Nonexempt Staff: recognizing excellence across a variety of areas of service
  • Teresa Lupinek Endowment Award for Exempt or Nonexempt Staff: recognizing staff whose work embodies many of the outstanding qualities for which Teresa and her work were known

On the heels of the successful “AI, Privacy, and Ethics Symposium” of April 2024, we’re back with a new iteration! Please join us for this fall’s AI Symposium, titled “Exploring the Gadgets & Gizmos in Your AI Toolkit.” This fall’s series will highlight various topics ranging from Google Gemini and its integration into UMBC platforms, to the broader legal implications of using generative AI, and much more!
