CourseArc offers new AI-supported features including image descriptions

<Tagline>Improve accessibility in your CourseArc content</Tagline>

CourseArc offers new AI-powered features to make content creation smarter and faster. From generating alt text and long descriptions to transforming outlines into full lessons and creating quizzes in seconds, these tools are ready to support your workflow -- right where you work.

Alt Text & Long Description Generator

Writing high-quality alt text and long descriptions is essential for accessibility, but it can be a time-consuming task. CourseArc's new Alt text & Long Description Generator tool, built directly into the Image block, generates clear, meaningful descriptions in seconds. Whether you’re working with simple icons or complex visuals, this feature helps you meet accessibility standards more quickly and consistently.

Magic Import

Getting started on a new course? Magic Import makes it easy. Paste in a syllabus, lesson plan, storyboard, or even unstructured content, and CourseArc’s Magic Import tool will convert it into editable lessons and pages -- complete with a suggested structure. It’s a powerful way to jumpstart content creation while maintaining full control over your design.

Magic Quiz Questions

Building assessments just got easier. Magic Quiz Questions auto-generates questions from your CourseArc content or any pasted text, supporting formats like multiple-choice, true/false, matching, ordering, and short answer. Use it to draft formative or summative assessments that align with your content. Fast, flexible, and ready to refine.

CourseArc is available in all Blackboard courses via the Content Market.
Dr. Pinzon Herrera receives MSCRF Fellowship Award

Congratulations to Dr. Luis Carlos Pinzon Herrera, a post-doctoral researcher in Dr. Almodovar’s Polymeric Biomaterials Lab, for being awarded the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF) Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award!

This competitive fellowship supports exceptional post-doctoral fellows conducting stem cell and regenerative medicine research in Maryland. Dr. Rachel Brewster, Chair of the Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission commented, “We recognize the life-saving potential of the research supported by our grant awardees. Sustained MSCRF funding is essential to advancing these efforts, particularly in today’s challenging funding landscape” She added, “We remain committed to helping innovative scientists and companies move cutting-edge stem cell research from the lab to patient care.”

Dr. Pinzon Herrera’s research project “focuses on enhancing nerve regeneration by optimizing biomimetic surfaces for Schwann cell precursors (RealSCPs) derived from human iPSCs. Using a layer-by-layer coating technique with heparin and collagen, the study aims to improve RealSCP adhesion, proliferation, and myelination potential. It involves both molecular-level analysis and co-cultures with iPSC-derived sensory neurons to evaluate the therapeutic potential of these engineered cells. The goal is to develop scalable, defined models to advance cell-based therapies for peripheral nerve repair.”

High Temp H2O update

The HTHW System is not back on yet. Part of this outage was to replace aged pipe and fittings in the Central Plant. There was a series of pipe cuts and welds that needed to occur. Late last week one of the welds failed a test. Every weld on this system is tested to confirm the integrity of the weld. This is critical since this system carries water at 330 degrees F at 250 psi. A failure of a weld when the system is on would be catastrophic and possibly fatal. The team worked through the weekend to complete the new weld. We are awaiting the results of testing, which is happening today. As soon as we have a weld test that passed, we will begin filling and turning on the heat. At this point, the earliest this will be is tomorrow morning. We will keep you informed on the status of the system. Thank you for your patience.
