    <h4><span>Hiding Column Does Not Hide Grades from Students</span></h4>
    <p>Selecting <em>Hide Column</em> from the contextual menu only makes the grade column <em>invisible to those who can edit the Grade Center</em>, not to the students. If you wish to make a grade column unavailable to students in the <strong>My Grades</strong> tool either choose <em>Show</em>/<em>Hide</em> <em>to</em> <em>Users</em> from the contextual menu or:</p>
    <ol>
    <li>Select Edit Column Information from the column heading's contextual menu</li>
    <li>In the <strong>Options</strong> area Edit Column page, select <em>No</em> for <strong>Show the Column to Students</strong>
    </li>
    <li>Click <strong>Submit</strong>
    </li>
    </ol>
    <h4><span>Making an <strong>Assignment</strong> Grade Column Unavailable to Students Does Not Make Their Scores Unavailable</span></h4>
    <p>If the grade is for a Blackboard Assignment, even selecting <em>No</em> for <strong>Show the Column to Students</strong> will not prevent the student from seeing the number of points earned when they view the Assignment page itself. Either make the Assignment unavailable or create a separate column to enter grades for said Assignment.</p>
    <h4><span>Hiding a Student Does Not Make the My Grades Unavailable to That Student</span></h4>
    <p>Selecting Hide User from the contextual menu next to a student's name only makes the user invisible to those who can edit the Grade Center.  My Grades cannot be made unavailable on a user-by-user basis, only course-wide.</p>

    <li>Content area where Bb Collaborate will be</li>
    <li>Tools at top - go to Bb Collaborate</li>
    <li>Create session - complete all 4 tabs at the top<br>A. Info - name it, dates, maybe add more talkers, all permissions<br>B. Participation - check restrict  participation, move names to  moderator box<br>C. Sharing - not  necessary for  this<br>D. Content - name it as before, check appropriate content area, adjust dates</li>
    <li>Submit - only those students/moderators assigned to that group  will be able to access the session (will see all sessions listed)</li>
    <li>Students, as moderators, can application share (share their desktop) , web tour, record session, talk, load content</li>
    <li>If groups do record their session, they must contact the instructor to make it available to them.  Instructor must  go to content area where  Bb Collaborate is, tools, Bb  Collaborate, recordings.  Down arrow by name of recording, edit it to say recording  and date and then choose content area</li>

    <p>In the original course, go to the content area, click on <strong>tools</strong> at top and click on <strong>Bb Collaborate.</strong></p>    <div>

                                <p><span>You can also go to <strong>Control Panel &gt; Tools &gt; Bb Collaborate.</strong></span></p>

    <li>Under <strong>Sessions</strong>, click the down arrow to the right of the session name, and select <strong>Edit</strong> from the drop down menu.</li>
    <li>Go to the <strong>information tab</strong>, choose <strong>shared</strong> and under additional courses, choose all the destination courses</li>
    <li>Continue through tabs at top even if you don't have to change anything. Make sure to hit <strong>S</strong><strong>ubmit</strong> in the top, right-hand corner.</li>
    <li>
    <p>Now, you will need to go to the destination course(s)<strong>.</strong> To get to the Bb Collaborate area, you can use step 1 above.</p>    <div>

                                <p>You must do this for each separate course.</p>

    <li>Once you are in the Bb Collaborate area, click the down arrow next to the session name, and select <strong>Add Content Item.</strong>

    <p><strong>Note:</strong><em> Only Moderators have access to Load Content. To give a student the permission to upload view: <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=30544666" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Grant Moderator Privileges to Participant</a>.</em></p>

    <li>Click on<strong> Load Content</strong> at the top right of the Blackboard Collaborate window</li>
    <li>Browse to your file and click <strong>Open</strong>
    </li>

    <p>Notes:</p>
    <ul>
    <li>
    <em>You must have the application that can open the presentation file installed on the computer from which you are uploading the file (e.g. <em>PowerPoint or OpenOffice</em>). </em>Blackboard Collaborate actually opens the presentation and takes snapshots of the slides. If you have animated transitions they will not work in Blackboard Collaborate.</li>
    <li>You can only import PowerPoint, OpenOffice presentations and image files (.jpg, .gif, and .png only), not files from other presentation applications, or Word documents, or PDFs, etc.</li>

                                <p>If a student is <u>still enrolled</u> in your course, manually removing them will not permanently remove them from your Blackboard course shell. Because it automatically syncs against the official UMBC enrollment roster in Peoplesoft, the student will be added back to your course within 2 hours.</p>
    <p>Students are not automatically removed from a Blackboard roster upon dropping a course, or transferring sections. In the case of a transfer, the student’s name will show up in BOTH sections, so you will want to address that.</p>

<Title>How do I change a role in Blackboard?</Title>

    <p>If a user is already in your course and you want to change their role.</p>
    <ol>
    <li>Go to <strong>Control Panel</strong> Box and select <strong>Users</strong>
    </li>
    <li><p>Click on the contextual menu button to the right of their name, and select the <strong>Change User's Role</strong> option</p></li>
    <li>Choose a new role for the User</li>
    <li>Click <strong>Submit</strong>
    </li>

<Title>Why am I getting an error 403 accessing WebAssign on Blackboard?</Title>

    <p>HTTP <strong>error 403</strong> means that you are not authorized to view the web page which you are attempting to load. WebAssign is <strong>a separate account</strong> and <strong>not accessible</strong> with a myUMBC account.</p>
    <p>Before you can login to WebAssign, you first have to set up your registration. Here are the step-by-step instructions:</p>
    <ol>
    <li>Go to the login page at <a href="http://www.webassign.net/student.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://www.webassign.net/student.html</a> or click the <strong>login button</strong> on the WebAssign Home Page</li>
    <li>Click <strong>I have a Class Key</strong>. If you don't know the class key, please ask your instructor or TA</li>
    <li>Enter the class key for your class in the fields that appear</li>
    <li>You should see the correct class information. Click <strong>Yes, this is my class</strong>
    </li>
    <li>Choose the link that applies to you (<strong>I need to create a WebAssign account</strong> or <strong>I already have a WebAssign account</strong> - the latter if you have used WebAssign in a previous class).</li>
    <li>Fill out all the information on the form that appears. If this is your first WebAssign account, you can choose your username and password as you please (otherwise you can keep the ones you already had). For institution, use "umbc". Make sure you enter your correct University Identity Number (UIN)</li>
    <li>Now you should be able to login with your WebAssign username and password (not myUMBC)</li>
    </ol>
    <p>Once you have obtained a WebAssign account, you are ready to access WebAssign assignments from within Blackboard.</p>
    <ol>
    <li>Log in to Blackboard and enter your course.</li>
    <li>Locate the <strong>Start Here</strong> button and log in to WebAssign.</li>
    <li>Then within the Blackboard course, navigate to the link for the WebAssign assignment or simulation, and open it.</li>
    <li>You will need to log in to WebAssign again <strong>before each</strong> assignment or simulation.<strong>Hints:</strong> Make sure all other browser windows are closed.  If you have had a period of inactivity you might need to log in to WebAssign again, or shut down the browser completely and open up a fresh instance.</li>
