The American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation honored Kathlene Babalola, M.S. ’05, biochemistry and molecular biology, with a Minority Scholars Award at the AMA’s Annual Meeting in Chicago, on June 15, 2013.
Kathlene was one of only eight medical students in the country selected to receive this award, which was given in recognition of her academic achievement and commitment to the elimination of health care disparities. As an AMA Foundation Minority Scholar, she received a $10,000 scholarship.
Kathlene received her B.S. in chemistry from Morgan State University and an M.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. A third year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Kathlene is passionate about women’s health and volunteering. She received the American Society for Clinical Oncology Medical Student Rotation grant, through which she worked at the MageeWomen’s Research Institute conducting research on ovarian cancer.
Kathlene serves as a HIV counselor and coordinator at a women’s center and shelter in Pittsburgh and volunteered in the Oncology Patients and Loving Students Program (OPALS). She previously worked as a research scientist for Bristol-Myers Squibb and Wyeth/Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Kathlene was selected as a 2013-14 Albert Schweitzer Fellow. Her project involves partnering with a junior high school to develop a special curriculum focused on teaching young women about intimate partner violence and healthy relationships.

The Writing Center is on the first floor of the Library, past the Reference Desk and Technology Support Center. Math lab is in the Retriever Learning Center on the first floor of the library.
The main office of the Learning Resource Center (LRC), including the Tutorial Center and Study Skills Center, is in Academic IV Building, B-Wing Room 345.

Restrooms are located next to the elevators on all levels in the library. Additional restrooms are located along the back wall of the lower level and 1st floor (in the Retriever Learning Center) and on the 2nd floor in the Honors College hallway and in the middle of the Serials stacks.

The Department of
Foreign Languages is currently seeking qualified candidates for a one
year, full-time faculty position in Spanish, pending final budget
approval. The successful candidate will have Native/Near Native fluency
in both Spanish and English and a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Spanish
with a specialization in applied linguistics or closely related field.
This position requires a 4/4 teaching load and the successful candidate must be able to teach a range of undergraduate Spanish language courses, as well as graduate level linguistics, and/or TESOL courses.

One of the biggest problems designing websites in Photoshop is that time-consuming period after your design gets approval, when you have to work through it layer by layer, converting your design to CSS.
There was a time when you could just slice the PSD into JPGs and code them into your HTML, but slicing just won’t cut it anymore; these days it’s all about CSS3.
Take gradients, it’s simple enough to apply a basic gradient in Photoshop, but how do you convert it to a CSS gradient when the angle is defined by different systems? How about drop shadows? You can read the values in Photoshop, but try adding those values to CSS and you’ll quickly discover that an x/y offset does not produce the same result as a vector.
