Migration of H:\ Drive Files to Box

Some of you all my recall our previous news article introducing Box@UMBC. This message is similar, but details a specific initiative to migrate users personal files stored on their H:\ drives (see 4th paragraph of this link if you need more explanation of what an H:\ drive is) to Box. Since DoIT has an agreement with Box to grant UMBC users space to store files DoIT is looking to have H:\ drive users to migrate their personal H:\ drive files to Box. DoIT is not in a rush to have this done, but they are looking to have this done this year. With this being revealed DPS IT will assist DPS staff to migrate their H:\ drive files to Box well before the year’s end. This is not a high priority task nor in our opinion is this a very difficult task. So DPS IT’s deadline will be to have all DPS staff migrate their H:\ drives by 6/30/2013 (end of 2013 fiscal year).

You may be asking yourself how you can do this? We first suggest looking at the documentation DoIT has published regarding Box. Also DPS IT will be holding some open training sessions. We envision reserving a room on different dates where DPS staff can bring their laptops and drop-in if they need help with migrating their H:\ drive files to Box. Alternatively if you would like a one-on-one session feel free to request this by opening a service request at http://dpshelp.umbc.edu.

So please stay tuned because we will be posting follow-up messages. To be sure you do not miss any updates regarding this initiative and other DPS news please be sure that you are a member of the DPS - Internal myUMBC Group. If you need to join click on the Home tab in this group and there will be a “Join Group” button to the right of the page.

Thanks,
