Fall 2013 Co-op with General Electric Appliances

<Tagline>Deadline to Apply: 2/5/13</Tagline>

GE employees worldwide are dedicated to turning imaginative ideas into leading products and services that help solve some of the world's toughest problems. As a co-op you will gain hands-on experience while working on challenging projects that contribute to the company's growth while learning from some of the brightest minds in the business.

GE is one of the largest manufacturers of major appliances in the world. Since 1907, we have been introducing advanced appliances to improve peoples' lives. We're continuing that legacy today with energy conserving innovations like the Advantium oven, the Harmony clothes care system, and more. GE set aggressive targets to improve the energy efficiency of Company operations and reduce the Company's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Today, GE offers nearly 400 products from refrigerators to cooking appliances to dryers that meet ENERGY STAR standards. Our theory- less energy, less water, better results.

Our program offers students the opportunity to gain experience and develop skills by working directly on the engineering teams and are expected to be a major contributor to those teams. Our program is designed as a mentoring opportunity where you are aligned with an individual assignment leader who will help set your specific goals, deliverables and expectations throughout your rotation.

Students who excel in our co-op program are given the opportunity to interview for full time opportunities through a Leadership Development Program. This is a 2 year program committed to growing our entry level, high potential employees who possess a passion for engineering, technical excellence and business skills by accelerating their development through technical training, leadership training and rotational assignments within challenging new product introductions, product development and innovative cost take out projects.

Position Description:
Co-ops joining our team have opportunities to complete innovative technical assignments in a variety of product areas including refrigeration, washer systems and cooking products. Our co-ops get to work on some of the newest innovations that will impact our environment. "Ecomagination" is our company-wide commitment to imagine and build innovative solutions that benefit our consumers and society at large. Some of these Eco-friendly products that our co-ops have contributed to are the GE Profile Harmony laundry pair, which delivers energy and water savings using a HydroMotion wash. If every U.S. household owning a washer not qualified ENERGY STAR were to replace it with a GE Profile Harmony washer, we could save enough water each year to fill nearly 400,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Plus our new refrigerators with ClimateKeeper2 technology, which keeps food garden-fresh longer. Refrigerators with FrostGuard defrost 20 percent less than conventional units, keeping frozen foods at their best. The system, working independently, uses a dual evaporator system to provide the best environment for fresh and frozen food. The decrease in greenhouse gas emissions over the life of all the GE ENERGY STAR -qualified refrigerators that were sold in 2005 is equivalent to eliminating more than 71,000 cars from U.S. roads for an entire year. The benefits of this experience extend beyond the exciting work assignments and competitive wages. We value development and offer several training opportunities to enhance students' technical and professional development including, communication skills and resume writing. Our co-ops participate on committees of their peers that offer opportunities to network with the leaders of the company. The committees perform many community service activities such as mentoring/tutoring elementary students. The co-ops have many social events both in and out of work. These include lunches, weekend activities, sports, and cookouts.

Location:
Louisville, KY

Basic Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical,Computer or Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum of 3.0/4.0 GPA
* Graduation Date of December 2013 or later

Desired Characteristics:
Successful candidates will have a strong record of academic achievement with a challenging array of technical courses, significant leadership roles on campus or in the community, strong interpersonal and communication skills, solid analytical skills and a passion for engineering.

GE is an equal opportunity employer. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
Even if a student turns off the email notification for Announcements, you can override that and force an email to be sent by checking the Send a copy... option when creating an Announcement.

Override User Notification Settings (important for Course/Organization leaders)
DO NOT USE THIS unless…..Users complain they receive double e-mails when an announcement is placed. The person that places the announcement most likely tagged the box ‘Override User Notification Settings’. The box “override User Notification Settings’ is meant for really very important things that happen within a day or two and most likely will not be seen in time when not e-mailed.

Before starting your quiz or test, it is important for you to follow a few guidelines to better ensure that you will not experience technical problems that might cause your assessment to "lock".

A wired connection is better for taking exams. Wireless connections, especially in public areas might have weaker connections and be prone to dropout

Close all windows on the computer and then launch a new window to login to the learning management system, Blackboard

Close other applications before taking the quiz/test (including chat programs).

If there is a specific start time for the test, login 10-15 minutes early to test the connection

Do NOT navigate to other locations or applications in Blackboard after the test opens or the assessment will lock

After opening the test, scroll to the bottom of the page to be sure the save and submit buttons are available

Do NOT click Save and Submit until you have completed the exam

Do NOT use any of the browser navigation buttons (i.e. Back, Forward, Home, etc.) during the quiz/test

Do NOT leave the assessment page without completing the assessment and clicking the Save and Submit button at the end (if it is a forced completion test)

Do NOT click the Refresh or Reload buttons in your browser while taking the quiz/test

Do NOT open other browser windows or applications while taking a quiz/test

Do NOT click on buttons in the Blackboard navigation while taking a quiz/test

If you are only able to answer one question at a time (questions present themselves on separate pages), make sure you only single-click the Next button to move forward
