Renovation Schedule

  • Phase 1: Manokin, Sideling, Breton, Deep Creek, & Elk
    • Anticipated Completion Date: End of August, 2012
  • Phase 2: Pocomoke, Casselman, Patuxent, Wicomico, & Antietam
    • Anticipated Completion Date: End of December, 2012
  • Phase 3: Sassafras, Chincoteague, Tuckahoe, Monocacy, Gunpowder, & Nanticoke
    • Construction Begins: End of December, 2012

 

So What Exactly Is Being Renovated?

Here's a list of just a few of the new features that the renovated apartments will have:

  • Building stairwells renovated to meet upgraded fire standards
  • Apartment front doors now use keycard locks (bedroom doors still use physical keys)
  • Apartments now equipped with ovens and table-top ranges
  • New furniture in apartments
  • New appliances in apartments
  • New light fixtures in bathrooms
  • New carpets

The application for UMBC's STRiVE 2013 leadership retreat (January 14-18, 2013) is now available.  If you're UMBC undergraduate student is interested in learning about building new skills, making new friends and becoming an agent of change on campus and in the UMBC community, they should consider applying.  STRiVE is . . . well, maybe you'll get a sense of it by reading a few of the Facebook status updates and tweets posted by participants in STRiVE 2012 the day they got back from the retreat last January:
  • Just got back from STRiVE, twas epic.
  • STRiVE is fun, energizing and, for many, life-changing.  I know it has been for me.
  • Going to STRiVE was literally the best decision I've made since being in college. I met so many amazing people. :)

  • I now understand what everyone meant when they told me that STRiVE would be a life-changing experience. STRiVE 2013 will take place at the Skycroft Conference Center in Middletown, Maryland (participants will travel by bus from the UMBC campus). A team of 12 UMBC staff members and student leaders will serve as facilitators for the retreat.

Tell Me

Internet Explorer 9 & 10

  • Open Internet Explorer

Press the Alt key (next to the space bar)
  • Select Tools
  • Select "Delete Browsing History..."
  • Make sure to uncheck Preserve Favorites website data and check both Temporary Internet Files and Cookies then click Delete.
  • You will get a confirmation at the bottom of the window once it has successfully cleared your cache and cookies

Safari

  • Open Safari
  • Click on Safari on the toolbar
  • Click on Reset Safari
  • Make sure that Remove All Website Data is checked
  • Click on Reset

Firefox v.21

(Mac OS X)
  • Open Firefox
  • Select Preferences
  • Select the Advanced panel
  • Click on the Network tab
  • In the Cached Web Content section, click Clear Now
  • Close Preferences box
(PC Windows) 
  • Open Mozilla Firefox 
  • Click the Firefox button and then choose Options
Note: If you're using the menu bar, choose Tools and then Options instead
  • With the Options window now open, click the Privacy tab
  • In the History area, click the clear your recent history link
Tip: If you don't see that link, change the Firefox will:option to Remember history. You can change it back to your custom setting when you're done
  • In the Clear Recent History window that appears, set the Time range to clear: to Everything
  • In the list at the bottom of the window, uncheckeverything except for Cache

Note: If you wish to clear other kinds of stored data, feel free to check the appropriate boxes. They will be cleared with the cache in the next step
Tip: Don't see anything to check? Click the button next to Details
  • Click on the Clear Now button
  • When the Clear Recent History window disappears, all of the files saved (cached) from your Internet browsing activities in Firefox will have been removed

 

Google Chrome

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Click the button with the three horizontal lines(below the X button)
  • Go to Settings
  • Click "Show Advanced Settings" on the bottom
  • Under the Privacy section, click Clear Browsing Data.
  • Make sure that Empty the cache and Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data are checked
  • Click Clear browsing data.

The University System of Maryland encompasses 12 institutions including UMBC and two regional higher education centers. It employs more than 14,000 faculty members and owns more than 1,000 buildings. Its annual operating budget is more than $4.5 billion. There are more than 180,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at its various institutions. But only one of them gets to participate directly in the decisions of the Board of Regents, the system's governing body. Three times in the past ten years, that one student--the Student Regent--has come from UMBC.  Could you be next?

Please take a look at this description of the Student Regent position and application, and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested.  The student selected will serve from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.

The application deadline is Monday, November 5th at 5:00 P.M. Submit completed applications in hard copy to my mailbox in the Office of Student Life, Commons 336, and also email the application form and essays to me at dhoffman@umbc.edu.  I'm very happy to answer questions about the position and the process, so don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like to know more.

To get started:
  1. Read about opportunities in your major. Investigate the summer programs linked to your major and pick 15 favorites.
  2. Put these workshops on your calendar  
  3. Use the advice on the same page to get started on a Personal Statement and on letters of recommendation to go with your application.
  4. Visit the Career Center or Shriver Center to make sure your resume is the best it can be for this purpose. 
  5. Make sure you are a member of the myUMBC group Undergraduate Research so you receive notices about application deadlines and application support.

We seek an individual who has the technical ability to convert our materials from Word and Power Point documents to an App for hand held student devices. Prefer someone who can develop the materials for cross platforms.


If you are interested in this position, please submit your resume and attend one of the information sessions to learn more about CurrTech Intergrations.

On November 6, two information sessions will be held in the Shriver Center in the Public Policy Building at 12 pm or 1:30 pm. In this session, you will learn more about our company as well as receive a project to show your innovation. Successful students who complete the projects will be evaluated and ask to interview for the internship.
