On-Campus Interviews offer students a chance to conveniently interview for professional positions on campus.  Employers travel to our campus for the specific purpose of interviewing preselected students for currently open positions.  This is a great opportunity to interview with employers specifically interested in UMBC students and offers the advantage of a smaller applicant pool.  Interviews take place during the fall and spring. The logistics (viewing positions, applying, signing up for interview time slots, etc.) are all handled via UMBCworks.

Hey HvZ players!

The officers are all recovered from the one-week and we hope you players are too. If you still have a bandanna from the weeklong please drop it off at one of the one-night missions or at the open officer meetings on Sunday (1pm in Commons 318!). If you don’t, we know who you are, and we will find you. If you lost your bandanna, you owe us $10. Bandannas not returned or otherwise compensated for will be considered stolen as per the waiver you signed when we gave it to you.

Also, on a serious note, use of excessive force is not okay. The following has now been implemented: 

Use of excessive force is now defined as knocking someone off of their feet. This is regardless of location of incident.  

Once someone is knocked off their feet, the game pauses. Both players and anyone who saw the incident NEED to stick around. This is very important because;

If any involved party leaves, guilt is assumed, and a warning is given.

These changes are meant to keep players both Human and Zombies safe and having fun. They mean that Zombies will take a little more care to only tag, and Humans can no longer make excessive force claims well after the fact. These are preemptive measures, and they will hopefully not be needed.

Upcoming Events:

Monday, October 15th is a one-night mission starting at 7pm in Lecture Hall 4.

Thursday, October 18th is a one-night mission starting at 7pm in Lecture Hall 1.

Please note, for the missions, we ask that you be sure to sign in for the one nights. If you come in late, that’s fine but please check-in before going out to play to make sure you are aware of any special rules that may be in play. Also keep in mind, that if you miss more than half the briefing, you must play zombie.

Zombie Prom is coming up on November 3rd! It’s at 7pm in the UC Ballroom. It’s our annual Halloween party with an optional mission! This year, the theme is Nightmare Before Christmas and it’s being DJ’d by the Phantom Gentlemen! We just got all the stuff approved (minus the cotton candy machine, but Katy’ll be okay). It’s shaping up to be pretty fun!  Any requests for music can be submitted here.

Hi Officers,

I read the Newsletter (because I don’t suck), and it left me
wondering…what is “knocking” defined as?

Say, I firmly tag a human (as the rules require) who is
running backwards up a steep hill or toward a curb and they fall
on their ass. Does that count as me “knocking someone off of
their feet” or is that simply player clumsiness and the laws of
physics clashing together? 

Oh, and what if I tackle someone, but ensure their feet never
leave the ground by having one of my friends hold the feet
firmly in place? That doesn’t meet the official definition of
excessive force, so I assume that wouldn’t be an issue, yeah?

How about a slide tag wherein my shoulder or head accidentally
stress-fractures someone’s leg, but they don’t fall over due to
being a bad-ass?

What if I make the ladies swoon so hard they fall over in a
fit of unbridled lust? Would that be excessive force?

Sorry about the outlandish questions (that are definitely not
based on real incidents), but the new rule is confusing and I’m
not sure where the line is drawn given the vaguely specific
[sic] terminology. Hoping you guys can help clear things up. ^.^

InternationalStudent.com is excited to announce the launch of the 2012 Travel Video Contest!

We have been getting a ton of emails already asking about this year’s contest, so here’s the skinny. This is our seventh year in a row, and the Grand Prize will be $4,000! There will also be some great runner-up prizes. Entry deadline is Halloween – October 31.

To enter the competition, you need to create a short movie (no longer than 5 minutes in length) telling us why you want to study or travel abroad. If you are already studying abroad, the movie can be about any trip you would like to take. Review all of the rules and regulations to make sure you are eligible, and be sure to check out our previous winners so you can see what it took to win in the past.

Finally, we are delighted to welcome our judges panel consisting of two previous winners of the contest (returning judges Sandy Florez, 2009 Winner, and Matt Brattin, 2006 Winner), as well as two international education gurus (returning judge Jim Crawley and first time judge Joe Avison). Judges, thank you in advance – it’s tough to choose a winner, and the pay really stinks!
