1. Click on the Organizations tab at the top of the Blackboard screen.
2. Enter placement in the Organization search field on the top, left-hand side.
3. Find the title of placement test as instructed on your letter.
4. Click the down arrow next to the course ID that matches the organization/placement test you wish to enroll, and click Enroll.
5. Enter the enrollment access code provided in your letter.
6. Click on the Submit button.
7. Click OK at the bottom of the screen on the ensuing screen. You will receive a successful enrollment message bottom of the screen.

Before joining a Blackboard Collaborate session, have your microphone headset plugged in. It is recommended to use a microphone headset (or at least headphones/earphones or an echo canceling microphone) rather than speakers. This will eliminate potential echoing and feedback and improve your audio experience.

1. Click on the link to the Collaborate Session provided to you (the link may be inside a Bb course or organization, published on a webpage, or may have been provided to you in an E-mail).
2. When the Opening meeting.jnlp window appears, click to Open with Java... and click OK
   Wait for Java to load. (This may take a few minutes so please be patient.) When using a MAC, the jnlp  file goes to the download folder, choose the file from the downloads to open.
3. When the security message comes up, check "Always trust content from this publisher" and click Run
4. The Blackboard Collaborate loading window will appear. If this is your first time logging into Blackboard Collaborate, you may encounter a connection speed window. Select your current connection speed - LAN, if on campus - and click OK. Blackboard Collaborate will load and you will be signed in
5. Upon entering your Blackboard Collaborate session, run the Audio Setup Wizard to configure your speakers and/or microphone through either option below:
   • You can click on the Audio Setup Wizard button (down arrow next to red gear at top of audio/video panel on left) and follow the steps on screen to configure your speakers and/or microphone
   • Or, go to the Tools menu at the very top and choose Audio > Audio Setup Wizard and follow the steps on screen to configure your speakers and/or microphone

4. Click Sign Up under the name of the group  in which you will enroll
5. A My Groups link will appear under the Course Menu

Statistics can be generated for individual items and external links in your course. This tool is especially helpful when you want to gather statistics on which items students are regularly accessing.  You must have enabled  statistics tracking when setting up the item or by editing  the item to allow tracking.

1. Click on the Action Link ( arrow pointing downward) next to a Content item
2. Select View Statistics Report
3. Click on the Action Link next to Content Usage Statistics and click Run
4. On the Run Reports page, select the desired Format, Users (if no users selected, will do class),  Start Date, and End Date
5. Click Submit to run the report

This account is only available to UMBC departments and their staff. Requests for student staff must come from a department staff member.

In order to be eligible to use this functionality of AD you must contact the DoIT Tech Support to request access to this service, by visiting http://my.umbc.edu/help/request and request access to the "Active Directory terminal server."

1. Start an Internet browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
2. Go to http://vpn.umbc.edu and Login with your myUMBC login name and Password when prompted*. Click here to see instructions on how to connect via VPN
3. From the Start button in Windows goto:Program Files -> Accessories ->Communications -> Remote Desktop Connection
   Note: Your PC must be running Windows
4. In the available text field enter: terminal.ad.umbc.edu Next click Options
5. Next select Local Resources. Select Disk Drives and Printers from the Local Devices box. This will allow you to move files between the terminal server and your local hard drive
   Click Connect
6. Your screen will change color reflecting the connection to Active Directory. You will be prompted for your username and password. Enter the username and password that you use to log onto your on-campus office computer.  You will use the format AD\username where username is your username.  Click OK
7. Once Remote Desktop displays the remote system, you should see something similar to your local desktop. Doubleclick the "My Computer" icon. Take note that your H: drive shows up in the explorer window. In addition your local computer drives show within the My Computer on the remote machine. This is perfectly normal (and safe). You will have access to both your local machine and the remote machine drives from this same window. "C on machine_name" will be your own personal computer that you are using to access AD. By double-clicking it will allow you to browse all files on your machine

NOTE: Printing to Departmental Network Printers is NOT enabled while using Terminal Server for security reasons.
