Exciting International Collaboration Opportunities - Wales, UK!

On January 27, 2025, in collaboration with Dr.Houbing Herbert Songof UMBC’s SONG Lab, our Global Partnerships Team hosted representatives fromCardiff Metropolitan University’s School of Technologies in Wales, UK. As part of theGlobal WalesPartnership Fund, the delegation included Dr.Chaminda Thushara Hewage(Associate Dean of Research) and Dr. @Rajkumar Singh Rathore (Senior Lecturer & Programme Director MSc Computing and IT).



We were also joined by visiting scholar-researchers from Brazil under the auspices of the CAPES Foundation: Dr.Pedro PedrosaRebouças Filho (Research Scholar at UMBC's SONG Lab, Professor, and Head of Research atLAPISCO - IFCE) and Dr. Elizângela de Souza Rebouças (Professor at the IFCE Federal Institute of Ceará and LAPISCO Researcher).

Highlights:
- Explored funding opportunities for scoping research and innovation.
- Discussed partnership areas in international student exchanges, summer programs, internships, faculty-led programs, and research collaborations.



This visit marked a significant step in strengthening cross-institutional ties and advancing research opportunities. A big thank you to Dr.Houbing Herbert Song,Adam Holden,Jerome M. Haynesworth II, M.A.,Brian Souders, Ph. D., andSamantha Salvatorifor helping facilitate yesterday’s discussions.  And, we look forward to building our partnership in the near future!

We're excited to pass along some resources and workshops that Retriever Integrated Health is offering this semester. They are offering both in-person and virtual groups, as well as many groups that will remain open for participants throughout the semester.  Their workshops will be covering a variety of topics including anxiety, sleep, mindfulness and executive functioning. 

The first step for a student to join a group is to complete a brief Initial Consultation appointment, which they can schedule by calling RIH (410-455-2542) or making an appointment through the RetrieverCare portal.  Anyone interested in more information can contact the RIH Front Desk via the patient portal.

Any UMBC community member can attend a workshop and there's no Initial Consultation appointment required. All RIH services are LGBTQIA2S+ friendly and are welcoming to all diverse populations.

Grad School Deadlines

For those planning to graduate in May, please note the following deadlines:

  • February 15 is the last day to apply for graduation
  • Complete Human Subjects Use Training, if relevant. Click here for more information.
  • Thesis candidates need to submit their Final Masters Exam Committee form two monthsprior to the thesis defense. *NOTE: Portfolio students do not need to submit a Final Masters Exam Committee form. 
  • May 1 is the graduate school deadline for final thesis submission

Funding Opportunities

The spring deadline for the TTL Small Grants program is February 28th! You are eligible to apply for up to $500 in research funds. See the pinned post on the TTL myUMBC page for further details or reach out to dicuirci@umbc.edu. The Dresher Center also offers small grants to TTL students.
