On Wednesday April 16, 2025, Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) will feature research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work will be shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits, performances, and film. Over 300 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects. They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated. This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.

All current undergraduates who have conducted research, scholarship or creative work in the last year may apply to present their results at URCAD. Mentors, fellow students, friends, family members, high school teachers and students, graduate school recruiters, and the general public are invited to attend.

Winter prompt, some spring info!

Writers, writers, writers,

Happy January! We've got a bit more break before the semester begins, let's finish this month strong :)

Just as the snow has lingered on the ground these couple weeks after falling, linger on the prompt for a while. We'll meet again soon in February, in only a few weeks! Hope to see you there. We have figured out a time for our weekly meetings, and they will be Thursdays from 4-5pm (starting, likely, 2/6). We will also try to host more online and workshopping events alongside these free-writing sessions since we know this time is limiting for some of you--in other words, we're making sure it's easy to stay involved in the club!

But before then, a final prompt for the break:

Nature is normally contrasted against humans, but are we separate from the natural world or within it? Explain or explore your view through your stories.

(I loved sitting watching the snowfall we have been getting.)

Happy writing, wishing y'all warm teas and calm, restful days,

My rent is cheap, and I'm willing to give the bedroom to my roommate if they pay an extra $100 in rent. Rent for staying in the living room would be $500, not including utilities. I would need more time to calculate that, but utilities are pretty cheap. The rent to stay in the bedroom of this apartment would be $600.
