Anupam Joshi (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering) was just selected as a recipient of the 2023 University System of Maryland Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship or Research, the highest honor that the Board of Regents bestows to recognize exemplary faculty achievement. Congratulations, Anupam!
Dr. Joshi is widely recognized as an international leader in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. He has been exceptionally productive in his career with nearly 300 peer-reviewed articles in top journals and conferences in his field, an h-index of 88, nine U.S. patents, and over twenty two million dollars in competitive extramural research funding as PI or Co-PI. This level of research productivity has placed him at the top of all faculty at UMBC and has certainly gone far beyond the ordinary obligations of a faculty. He is the third most cited faculty in UMBC regardless of discipline. He has been recognized as a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of InCS-COE, a tripartite US-UK-Japan organization for collaborative research in Cybersecurity.
Over his career at UMBC, Dr. Joshi has regularly worked with the industry and government to translate this research into practice. During the past three years, he has used funds from MIPS to translate the technology created in his lab to two Maryland startups, both founded by African American entrepreneurs. He was a key member of the UMBC team that got the state to invest $3M into our cybersecurity center, and over a million to create the Maryland Institute of Innovative Computing. These will support and grow our efforts to support research and education in key computing areas to benefit the state.
Congratulations again, Anupam! You are an inspiration!
