Ephesians 2:19-22 (NIV)
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit
.
Reflection:
When constructing any building, the cornerstone is so important because all the other stones are set in reference to this stone, determining the position of the entire structure. Christ serves as our reference point and is the foundation on which the apostles and prophets were built. What is amazing is that we have been included, as citizens and family members, being built together as his church on this immovable foundation of Christ. And it is with much confidence that we are reminded that it is together on this foundation, where his Spirit dwells.
Response:
Let’s thank God for calling us out of where we were and into his family. Let’s thank him for our churches and pray that he would continue to build us up together on this foundation of Jesus Christ to be places where his Spirit lives and actively moves among us.
