Luke 16:13-15 (NIV)
13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” 14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.
Reflection:
In the passage above, Jesus points out that it is impossible to serve two masters; one cannot serve both God and money. Rather, one will be loved and the other will be hated. As Jesus addressed the Pharisees who seemingly devoted their lives to loving and “serving” God, it was evident from their lives that they loved money instead. This confusion arose in their hearts because they had made making money into their “end” rather than the “means” by which they could achieve the end of serving God. But, by God’s grace, our “end” is God and everything else is the means toward that end. So, as believers in Christ, let’s not be confused with the ends.
Response:
Spend some time thanking the Lord again for all that He has blessed our churches with. Let’s pray for a greater outpouring of God’s blessing over all our churches, so that every means that we all receive would be used for the “end” of greater worship unto Him.
