Baltimore April 22nd 2019 – Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment), a nonprofit in Baltimore that provides housing and support services to homeless individuals and families, will host a FREE documentary screening at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Friday May 3rd from 4:30pm to 6:30 pm. “Project PLASE: Our Stories” is a compilation of the stories of PLASE clients and is a collaboration between Project PLASE and the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Media and Communication Studies Program and American Studies Department. A panel discussion will follow the film screening featuring scholars from Morgan State University, University of Maryland Baltimore and a journalist from the Baltimore Sun.
The evening will provide insight and offer context for stakeholders, decision makers, homelessness advocates and Baltimore residents by sharing first-hand experiences of PLASE clients coupled with information about root causes and issues surrounding homelessness. This is the first documentary in an ongoing archival project entitled, Project PLASE: Our Stories; which aims to educate audiences on the reality of homelessness in Baltimore City. The following panel features experts in their respected field include: Dr. Lorece Edwards of the Morgan State University School of Public Health and Policy, Baltimore Sun journalist Yvonne Wegner, and Adam Schneider, Clinical Instructor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
Founded in 1974, Project PLASE has been serving the Baltimore Community for 45 years, fighting to end homelessness in Baltimore by providing access to affordable housing for the city’s most vulnerable population. Project PLASE: Our Stories is the first installment in a series of collected narratives designed to archive the unique stories of all Project PLASE clients. This event marks the beginning of a robust calendar for PLASE with their Spoken Word Competition (August), Benefit Jazz Concert (September), Art Exhibition and Auction (October-November), and Blanket Ball (February 2020) coming soon.
