The White Supremacist State through the Racial Triangulation of Black, Asian, and White Communities
Time
Jun 7, 2021 07:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Description
This webinar will be a collaborative inquiry and discussion on the racialization processes of Black, White, and Asian communities and the unique manifestations of the White Supremacist state in the context of increased police brutality and criminalization of Black people, rising xenophobia and hate crimes against Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), and the resurgence of state sanctioned terrorism and extremism against BIPOC communities.
The purpose of this webinar is to promote public education on the invisible structures and manifestations of the White Supremacist state in America and the manufactured, historical animosity which has maintained deep divisions among BIPOC communities. The webinar will bring greater awareness on the reality of power dynamics between and within groups, especially related to the goals of racial justice movements today.
Panelists include: Joe Feagin, Ph.D. (Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Ella C. McFadden Professor at Texas A&M University); Claire Jean Kim, Ph.D. (Professor of Political Science and Professor of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Irvine); and Daphne Penn, Ph.D. (Visiting Fellow at Harvard University and Incoming Postdoctoral Fellow at the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania).
This webinar is being sponsored by SPSSI's Graduate Student Committee. Registration is free and open to everyone. A recording of this webinar will be posted on SPSSI's YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/spssi) after it airs.
