*Please distribute broadly.*
Increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in coastal and marine science research is an important programmatic priority for Maryland Sea Grant and the National Sea Grant College Program. To further this priority, the National Sea Grant Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and Traditional and Local Knowledge (TLK) communities of practice have implemented the Sea Grant Community-Engaged Internship (CEI) program for undergraduate students beginning in summer 2020. CEI is designed to specifically engage students from underrepresented and indigenous communities.
Two 10-week summer internships are being offered for summer 2022:
- The Communications Internship at Maryland Sea Grant will offer science outreach and communication training with our education and communications team. We are seeking student applicants who are excited about helping to translate scientific topics related to the Chesapeake and Maryland Coastal Bays, and their watersheds.
- The Community Engagement Internship at Maryland Sea Grant Extension will focus on urban watershed restoration outreach and provide an opportunity to learn about community-based participatory research.
To apply, please submit your application through our internship portal by Monday, May 2, 2022.

The internships will start after Memorial Day and are based out of College Park, Maryland. The internships may be onsite or have remote working arrangements depending on requirements and university COVID-19 restrictions. The 10-week internships include a stipend of $6,000.
