Do you want to make yourself more marketable in your job search? Do you ever find yourself thinking, “It would be great to have even just heard about the basics of coding.”? If so, consider joining Cynthia Wagner, PhD every Monday, for the somewhat informal workshops being held on Webex from 1:00pm to 1:50pm to learn the basics of Python and R. Python is a general-purpose computer language that is useful for data analysis and data visualization. R is useful for statistical analysis as well as graphical displays of data. Both are used by biologists.
This is a new initiative for the AMB students, it is NOT a class. Let’s call it a weekly workshop that is open to other people in the department. No previous programming experience is needed.
Sean Brown, a grad student in Dr. Stephen Freeland’s lab will be the person doing the presentations and will also be available via email for homework help (this is his TA assignment). The current plan is to have a “mini-lecture” every Monday, beginning Sept 26th and a mini-homework assignment due every Friday (these are required for AMB students, but optional for everyone else).
