The Department of Biological Sciences has gotten a few questions about Microbiology this Spring. This year, the Department of Biological Sciences made some adjustments to BIOL 275 – Microbiology and BIOL 275L – Microbiology Lab. This change introduced three new course numbers to the Spring 2021Schedule of Classes:
BIOL 273 – Microbiology for Allied Health Students
This course is only for non-BIOL allied health students (specifically pre-nursing). BIOL majors cannot take this course. Instructor permission is required.
Pre-req: BIOL 101 or BIOL 141 with a “C” or better.
BIOL 273L (formerly BIOL 275L) – Microbiology Lab
This is the same Microbiology Lab as BIOL 275L. Since this lab is generally taken by allied health students, it was renumber to coincide with the Microbiology for Allied Health Students lecture course. Course is open to BIOL majors, but it cannot be used towards major requirements.
Pre-/co-req: BIOL 273 or BIOL 375.
BIOL 375 (formerly BIOL 275) – General Microbiology
This course is BIOL 275, but with a new number and updated pre-reqs. This course still fulfills an Elective 1 for the BIOL BA and a Column A elective for the BIOL BS. Students who are pre-med, pre-dental, and pre-PA are strongly encouraged to take this version of microbiology, if needed for professional school.
Pre-reqs: BIOL 302 and BIOL 303.
