How Are Our Clean Energy Entrepreneurs Doing?
2013 had significant changes in the opportunities for clean energy startups. There has been good news, bad news, and definitely changes. For example, shale gas is still coming strong which has contributed to 150 coal-fired power plants being retired during the last 5 years. Furthermore, both wind and solar energy are now close to grid parity in some parts of the country. As a result, the US is almost on track to satisfy Obama’s goal of reducing GHG by 17% (relative to ‘05) by 2020.
However, the number of energy companies in our incubator is down, many small companies are struggling, and number of participants at most conferences I attend are substantially less than recent years.
So, as we approach the end of 2013, it is time to get together to discuss how the entrepreneurs in the trenches are doing.
