Linda Dusman: Something Else
The Department of Music presents Something Else: A triptych of new works by Linda Dusman, with audio and video by Alan Wonneberger. The performance will feature UMBC faculty Tom Goldstein, bass drum; Lisa Cella, bass flute; Gita Ladd, cello; and Daniel Pesca, piano.
Something Else resists the traditions of both concert hall and installation art. Linda Dusman’s response to the pandemic combines reflections on the biology of the coronavirus spike protein, the poetry of Serena Hilsinger and Galway Kinnell, and the call of the extinct Kauai O’o bird. The music will be performed as a continual sonic event tightly woven with Alan Wonneberger’s 2021 17-year cicada recordings and videos of water surfaces, creating a contemplative space. It is Something Else.
Three premieres will be presented on the program:
And numberless quotidian happenings for solo bass drum
Corona Bagatelles for cello and piano
Only wait a little, and listen… for solo bass flute
TicketsAdmission is free.
