Set in in a francophone school in Montréal, Monsieur Lazhar is a profound story about a class of young schoolchildren who are confronted with abrupt death of their teacher. An immigrant Algerian teacher steps in as a replacement and connects through traditional yet nonconformist methods with the children. In an unsentimental tone, the film reflects on loss, guilt and healing.
