The CAHSS Women’s Faculty Network is looking for new leadership! Tamara and Rebecca will be stepping down from their posts at the end of this academic year, and are eager to help a new chair/co-chairs begin writing the WFN's next chapter.
The WFN chair or co-chairs communicates regularly with group members to identify their needs and concerns and develop strategies for addressing them. The WFN emphasizes mentorship, advocacy, and community-building; the job of the chair/co-chair is to think creatively about how to realize these broad goals. This includes coordinating relevant programming, arranging social events, facilitating peer mentorship around P&T self-assessments, meeting with potential hires during their on-campus interviews, welcoming new faculty to campus, and alerting WFN members to other opportunities that might be of interest, and more. The chair/co-chairs also collaborate, as needed, with leadership of other affinity groups and advocate for policy change on behalf of their colleagues.
As of AY20/21, the Provost’s office provides a stipend to all affinity group leaders; the total stipend for each group is $5000 per year, which can be split between co-chairs. The Provost’s office also has dedicated administrative support to help the chair/co-chair manage scheduling, budgeting, and other logistics.
Interested? Please send your name and a 150-200 word statement of interest to Tamara (tbhalla@umbc.edu) and Rebecca (adelman@umbc.edu) by Monday, April 19. We’ll hold an online election shortly thereafter. We welcome your questions as well. If there are two people interested in co-chairing, please let us know and we can enter your name on the ballot as such.
