Creighton Smith Retirement (celebration in future)

Creighton C. Smith retired on October 1, 2026 from UMBC after 42 years of dedicated and exemplary service to the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and the College of Natural and Mathematical  Sciences.  Creighton is also a UMBC English Major Alum '84.

His knowledge and experience have been invaluable to the research and educational missions of the department. Creighton contributed significantly to numerous faculty as it related to the procurement of scientific material, supplies, and equipment.   

More importantly, Creighton was always ready to help with even the most intractable procurement problems, embark on an intellectual conversation, or lend an ear to a frustrated colleague. 

Hopefully, we will have a celebration for Creighton by the end of the Academic Year.  Please look for a future announcement with more details.
